history
Anglars is believed to be one of the estates that Saint Desiderius of Cahors (590–655), Bishop of Cahors , gave to the Abbey of Saint-Amans in Cours . Excavations in 1986 confirmed the settlement of Anglars during ancient times .
The first known mention of the Anglars' fief came in 1330 with the homage to the Bishop of Cahors by Segai de Valsorian. In 1368 homage is paid to Guilhelme de Trebous, wife of Monpila. In 1504 Pierre de Massault counts Seigneur on Anglars, different places his king, which he by the Bishop of Cahors without manorial held, including a "small antique house" in Anglars.
The parish of Anglars merged with the parish of Albas in 1769. This association was reversed on the occasion of the Anglars in 1777. As a municipality, Anglars merged again with the municipality of Albas in 1795. Due to the law of June 4, 1853, Anglars-Juillac became independent with parts of the territories of the municipalities of Albas and Bélaye.

Parish Church of Saint-Laurent
The apse and most of the nave can be dated to the end of the 12th or the beginning of the 13th century. The two side chapels may have been added successively in the late 15th or early 16th centuries. The bell gable is a relatively high wall with four ogival wall openings for the bells. Most of them probably come from the end of the Middle Ages . The course of the arch back is not concentric to the reveals according to the construction principle of the Middle Ages. This indicates a possible restoration or subsequent change, for example to prevent the bell gable from tilting. The northern entrance portal was built in the second half of the 16th century.
The Romanesque apse was built from ashlar . It consists of a semicircular part with a boiler vault behind a straight part with a barrel vault . The cornice rests on smooth consoles or with combined ornamentation between which holes are made, reminiscent of perforated metopes . The ceiling of the single-nave nave is covered with paneling that replaced an earlier beam. The two side chapels have a cross-ribbed vault with double bars on the ribs. The southern chapel has its own entrance, above it a smooth shield on which a family coat of arms used to be seen. This is a sign that the chapel was once reserved for the landlord family. The entrance to the nave is via the entrance portal on the north side of the church. Above it, a relief shows the biblical scene of the crucifixion with Christ on the cross between Mary and another figure. The souls of the two thieves are carried away by an angel and a demon . The two angels on the keystone of the arch may once have presented a coat of arms or carried censer . This entrance portal has been classified as a Monument historique since March 13, 1930 .
Anglars Castle
It bears a certain resemblance to Cousserans Castle in Belaye, which is five kilometers away, which suggests that it was built at the same time. Cousserans Castle was built between 1472 and 1479. The construction of the Anglars Castle is estimated to be of a more recent date. In any case, the style of the former entrance is already renaissance .
The Castle of Anglars is taken by the Seigneur von Cousserans on October 24, 1588. In the 17th century the castle passed to the Malegat family, then in 1679 to the Dablanc family, who held it until the French Revolution . In 1818 it belongs to Bonafous-Murat, who initiated the creation of the park. In 1880 it was sold to the Bénestèbe family, who set up a stud there after the First World War .
Anglars Castle has a tall, elongated main building made of quarry stone with rounded corners, a round stair tower in the northwest, a square tower with rounded corners and a reduced version of the short wing give the castle a resemblance to Cousserans Castle. The two towers are off-center, as is often the case with this type of building. The continuous crowning with machiculi at Cousserans Castle is interrupted here by the stair tower that protrudes over the residential wing. the consoles of the machiculi rest on roofs or lintels of the cross-floor windows and cross-floor windows of the residential wing.
