Location of the local community Dalheim in the Mainz-Bingen district | ||
Dalheim is a municipality in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Rhein-Selz community , which has its administrative headquarters in the city of Oppenheim .
geography
The community lies between Mainz and Worms and is a place shaped by agriculture. The wine village is located in the Rheinhessen wine-growing region .
Neighboring communities are Köngernheim , Dexheim , Weinolsheim and Uelversheim .
history
Dalheim was first mentioned in a document dated June 10, 766 listed in the Lorsch Codex . In addition to Lorsch Abbey, Fulda Abbey was also wealthy in the village. There were vineyards here as early as the 8th century.
In the 13th century the place came to the County of Falkenstein and with this in 1667 to the Duchy of Lorraine . With the marriage of Duke Franz Stephan to Maria Theresa of Austria in 1736, the county fell to Habsburg , Dalheim now belonged to the part of the empire Front Austria and from 1782 was subordinate to the Oberamt Winnweiler .
After 1792 the region was occupied by French troops in the First Revolutionary War and annexed after the Peace of Campo Formio (1797) . From 1798 to 1814 Dalheim belonged to the French department of Donnersberg and was assigned to the canton of Oppenheim .
Due to the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna (1815) and a state treaty concluded with Austria and Prussia , the region came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1816 and was assigned to the province of Rheinhessen .
After the Second World War Dalheim was within the French zone part of the then newly formed Rhineland-Palatinate and part of the district of Mainz in the administrative district of Rheinhessen .
The Jewish community
In the 19th century there was a small Jewish community in Dalheim. In 1861 the maximum number of 30 Jewish residents was counted. A synagogue is mentioned for the first time in 1847 . It was desecrated by unknown perpetrators in July 1890 and probably closed a little later. Most of the Jewish inhabitants had moved to the cities or emigrated by then. A small Jewish cemetery , inaugurated in the summer of 1858 and preserved to this day, is the only reminder of Jewish history today.
