The Fédération Française de Triathlon ( FFTRI for short ) is the umbrella organization of all French triathlon and duathlon clubs and represents France in the International Triathlon Union (ITU).

As early as 1902 there was a competition in France called "Les Trois Sports":
It consisted of a run, a cycling competition and a canoeing course; the canoe trip was then replaced in 1920 by a swimming distance.

In 1984 the CCTF (Comité de Coordination du Triathlon en France) and at the same time the CONADET (Comité National pour le Développement du Triathlon) were founded. The Fédération Française de Triathlon was founded on October 21, 1989 and the first president of the association was Jean Cote .

National championships are held annually by the association in France for:

• Triathlon
• Duathlon (since 1990)
• Bike & Run (since 2009)
• Aquathlon (since 2009)
• Cross triathlon

Today Philippe Lescure is appointed President.

The FFTRI. is subject to the French sports association CNOSF (Comité National Olympique et Sportif Française) and the European triathlon federation ETU ( European Triathlon Union ).

State Championships

Triathlon

Sprint and short distance

There have been annual national championships since 1985, which go either over the sprint or short distance.

Sprint distance : 750 m swimming, 20 km cycling and 5 km running
Short distance : 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running

Philippe Méthion was French triathlon champion eleven times between 1987 and 1996: he won the title eight times in the sprint and short distance and three more times in the medium and long distance.

Isabelle Mouthon won the women's title eight times until the end of 2000. Her sister Béatrice achieved a first (1994), five second and four third places.

In 2010, Frédéric Belaubre was able to win the title on the short distance for the fifth time and Laurent Vidal became national triathlon champion on the short distance for the third time in 2012. Born in Great Britain, Jessica Harrison became the French national short distance champion for the fifth time in a row in 2013.

In June 2016, the military world champion (2015) Emmie Charayron won the title for the second time in a row. Cassandre Beaugrand won the title for the second time after 2014 in September 2017 and in May 2018 she won the title for the third time.

Charlotte Morel - three-time triathlon state champion in the middle distance (2015, 2016, 2017)

Under the umbrella of the FFTRI. The triathlon championship or championship series Grand Prix de Triathlon is held annually in France on the short distance .

Medium and long distance

National championships in triathlon in the medium and long distance have been held in France since 1986. Elisabeth Poncelet was able to secure the title five times by 1993.

Until 2005 the FFTRI was. on the long distance also organizer of Ironman France and the previous event “Triathlon International de Nice” - and since 2005 this race has been held by Triangle show & sports promotion GmbH with Yves Cordier .
Delphine Pelletiere was also able to win the title in the middle distance for the fifth time in 2013. In Calvi, Corsica, Sylvain Sudrie became national champion for the fifth time in 2014.

The 28-year-old Charlotte Morel from AS Monaco Triathlon became French champion in 2017 for the third time in a row.

Sprint and short distance

Sandra Lévénez - nine-time duathlon state champion (2007, 2010–2015, 2018, 2019)

National duathlon championships have been held in France since 1991. The distances on the Duathlon short distance are transferred

• 10 km run,
• 40 km cycling and
• 5 km run.

Edwige Pitel was French duathlon champion seven times - 1998 to 2003 and 2005.

Anthony Le Duey won the title four times on the short distance and two more times on the duathlon long distance.

Damien Derobert became national duathlon champion for the fifth time in 2011.

Sandra Lévénez won the title for the ninth time in April 2019 as a 39-year-old, after she was Vice State Champion for the third time in March 2017.

The aquathlon is an all-around competition consisting of swimming and running with uninterrupted timing. The state championships go over the distances for elite athletes

• 2.5 km run,
• 1 km swim (the distances vary between 750 and 1000 meters)
• and running 2.5 km.
