The Fiat Punto is a small car from Fiat . The second generation was produced from 1999 to 2007.

Model history

On the occasion of Fiat's 100th birthday, the second generation of Fiat Punto models was presented in May 1999 and came onto the market in September 1999.

In contrast to its predecessor, this Punto is only available as a three- and five-door model; the convertible version of the predecessor continued to be built until June 2000. The technical feature is the electrically assisted steering. In “City” mode you need very little power to steer. This makes it easy to park. From 50 km / h the "standard support" is automatically set again, i. This means that a little more power is needed to steer.

The Fiat Punto Rallye was developed for car races and delivered to the customer ready to race. Only the chassis still had to be tuned. In 2001 the " Abarth " version with a 1.8-16V engine and lower weight was presented.

In March 2003, the five millionth car rolled off the assembly line for the European market. In June 2005 the number of Puntos produced up to then was six million.

Facelift

In June 2003 the Punto received a facelift. The front section was redesigned and the rear was slightly revised. With the revision, the equipment variants were renamed Active, Dynamic, Emotion, Sporting and Abarth for the top model (131 PS). For a short time there were also the variants Class , GO , Sole , Sound and Start .

The second generation of the model remained in the range in several countries in the five-door variant as a low-priced entry-level model Punto Start until the end of 2007 and was produced by Zastava as " Zastava 10 " for other, mainly Eastern European markets and partly still sold as Fiat (e.g. in Hungary ). In Italy and Austria the old generation of the Punto existed under the name Punto Classic until the end of 2009.

In Egypt, however, the change was not carried out and the old version of the Punto from 1999 has been assembled by the El-Mashreq Company ever since .
