Iceland already had a good chance to score in the 3rd minute through Gylfi Sigurðsson, who failed to Patrício. On the other side, Nani headed the ball directly at Hannes Þór Halldórsson in the 21st minute, before scoring the 1-0 ten minutes later. At the beginning of the second half, Birkir Bjarnason, standing free in the penalty area, equalized after a cross. Portugal were the dominant team for the entire season and had better chances of winning even after the 1-1 draw, but Iceland brought the draw over time.
