The 2014/15 season of the Regionalliga West was the seventh season of the Regional Football League as the fourth highest division and the 18th of the Regionalliga West in Germany.
Season course
While FC Kray returned to the regional league after a year in the Niederrheinliga , the other two promoted teams FC Hennef 05 and SV Rödinghausen played their first regional league season. In 2014, Hennef became champion of the Middle Rhine League for the third time in a row , but had renounced promotion to the regional league after the first two championships. In contrast, the clubs from Siegen and Viktoria from Cologne had experiences from the 2nd Bundesliga . Oberhausen , Aachen , Uerdingen , Wattenscheid and Rot-Weiss Essen even played in the 1st Bundesliga . RW Essen became German champions in 1955 and, like Uerdingen, won the DFB Cup once . Essen and Viktoria Köln were named as favorites for the championship by the coaches before the season. In their opinion, Oberhausen and Lotte were among the extended circle of favorites.
The season began on August 1, 2014 with the game Rot-Weiss Essen against runner-up Sportfreunde Lotte . Viktoria Köln was the top team in the league in the first third of the season. From the 4th to the 14th match day the team was the leader of the table, but then played significantly weaker and then dismissed Claus-Dieter Wollitz, the most famous coach in the league. The second top favorite, Rot-Weiss Essen, was initially well off the promotion spot in the first third of the season, but then increased continuously and was able to secure the autumn championship on the last match day of the first half of the season before the Aachen Alemannia tied on points. The winter break was from December 16, 2014 to February 5, 2015.
The game Sportfreunde Lotte against Rot-Weiss Essen on matchday 18 ended 1: 1, but was subsequently rated 0: 2 for Essen by the WFLV Association Judgment Chamber, because Cebio Soukou from Essen was proven to have committed a doping offense . For Lotte the game was rated 1: 1 unchanged. Soukou was for five months locked . At the match between Alemannia Aachen and Rot-Weiss Essen, a new attendance record for the five-track regional league was set on matchday 20 with 30,313 spectators in the sold-out Tivoli . The game was broadcast live on WDR television . In the further course of the second half of the season, Rot-Weiss Essen lost contact with the top positions and dismissed coach Marc Fascher . Alemannia Aachen and Borussia Mönchengladbach's U23s fought for the top. In the final phase of the season, Viktoria Köln was able to temporarily replace Aachen as the first pursuer of the Gladbach team, who had been leaders since the 23rd match day. On the 33rd matchday, Borussia Mönchengladbach was the champions. The season ended on May 23, 2015 with the 34th matchday. In the promotion games to the third division , the Mönchengladbacher could not prevail against Werder Bremen II and thus remained in the class.
VfL Bochum announced on March 16, 2015 that it would withdraw the U23 team from the 2015/16 season. In addition to the Bochumers, the relegated KFC Uerdingen 05 , Sportfreunde Siegen and FC Hennef 05 had to say goodbye to the league.

- If teams withdraw from the current season or the coming season , the number of (other) relegated teams is reduced accordingly. (VfL Bochum will withdraw its team from the game after the end of the season. Therefore, only three relegated teams were determined.)
- Note: The number of relegated teams determined in this way - even if there are fewer than four - did not increase even because the master did not move up to the 3rd division. The 2015/16 regional league season will therefore be played with 19 teams.

- ↑ After the standing stand was completed in July 2014, there is still no updated capacity officially announced by the club. Capacity is therefore based on an estimate: 90m x 4 steps x 2 standing places per step meter + 95m x 1.2m x 2 standing places per m² on the area in front of the first step. Total: 948 standing places. Of the previously 600 uncovered standing spaces on three sides (spread over approx. 200m), the construction of the grandstand will in turn mean that there are no standing spaces (standing around 100m long). Overall, the current stadium capacity increased from 2,489 visitors so net by about 648 standing on now about 3140 seats (2489 + 648 = 3137).
