He has been under contract with FC Barcelona since 2008 . With the Spanish national team he became world champion in 2010 and European champion in 2012 .

Gerard Piqué began his career with the second team at FC Barcelona . He moved to Manchester United in 2004 . He made his debut on October 26, 2004 in the Carling Cup against Crewe Alexandra , when he came on for John O'Shea . For the first time in the starting XI in a league game he was on March 29, 2006 against West Ham United . For the 2006/07 season he was awarded to the Spanish first division club Real Saragossa . There he scored two goals in 22 games and played alongside Gabriel Milito . After one season he returned to Manchester United and scored his first Champions League goal on November 7, 2007 in a 4-0 win over Dynamo Kiev with a 1-0 goal. In the 2007/08 Premier League season, Pique made nine appearances, but only three of them over the full season. At the end of the season he won the English championship and the UEFA Champions League with Manchester United .

For the 2008/09 season he moved back to FC Barcelona. He won the Champions League three times with the team, the Copa del Rey six times and was Spanish champion eight times.

His contract in Barcelona runs until 2022.

Piqué has played four games for the Catalan football team since 2004 .

In 2006 he won the U19 European Championship in the final against Scotland with the Spanish U19 selection . A year later he took part with the U20 team in the Junior World Championship , where he played all six games from the start. In the quarter-finals against the Czech Republic, he missed the decisive penalty.

On February 11, 2009 Piqué made his debut for the Spanish national team in a friendly against England. In the qualifying games for the 2010 World Cup , he was used six times and scored three goals, including the winning goal against Turkey . He ousted the European champions Carlos Marchena and Raúl Albiol from the starting line-up and was in central defense alongside Carles Puyol at the 2010 World Cup . He was there next to goalkeeper Iker Casillas and Joan Capdevila the only Spanish player who completed every game of his team in full. Piqué became world champion with the team for the first time.

At the European Championships in France in 2016 , he was included in the Spanish squad. In the first group game against the Czech Republic, he scored the winning goal to make it 1-0 shortly before the end of the game with a header. This game as well as the other games up to the elimination in the round of 16, he played for the full playing time.

In central defense, the 193 cm tall piqué is valued primarily for its headball strength and positional play. With his ball handling and game overview, Piqué cleverly initiates his team's build-up game and often moves to the opponent's penalty area, especially in set pieces, for example in the Champions League semi-final second leg in 2009/10 against Inter Milan , when he kept getting into the Attack game switched on and ultimately scored a technically challenging goal to make it 1-0. His style of play earned him the nickname Piquenbauer, based on Franz Beckenbauer .

Piqué has been in a relationship with the pop singer Shakira since 2010 , who is exactly ten years older than him to the day. Their first son was born on January 22, 2013 in Barcelona. Their second son was born on January 29, 2015.

Piqué regularly plays in poker tournaments of the European Poker Tour and PokerStars Championship, which take place once a year in Barcelona . In August 2017, he finished fifth at an event costing 25,500 euros and received prize money of almost 130,000 euros. At the end of August 2019, he finished second in a EUR 25,000 tournament and secured over EUR 350,000. In September 2018, during a traffic control, it was found that Piqué was driving a car without a valid driver's license. At the time, he had no points in his credit account. According to Spanish law, every vehicle driver initially has twelve points; points are then deducted in the event of violations. If these points are used up, the driving license expires temporarily. At Piqué these were used up and he was informed about it. In legal proceedings, he faces sentences of up to six months in prison, fines of 288,000 euros and up to 90 days of community service.

Piqué is the owner of FC Andorra , which plays in the 3rd Spanish league .
