Hilde Gjermundshaug Pedersen (born November 8, 1964 in Hamar ) is a Norwegian cross-country skier and starts for Nybygda IL .

Career

Hilde Gjermundshaug Pedersen won the silver medal at the Junior World Championships in 1983 in Kuopio, Finland, both in the individual over 5 kilometers and in the 3x5 kilometer relay of the Norwegians. She made her debut in the World Cup on March 3, 1984. A few years later, she retired for the first time as a cross-country skier and was instead a successful orienteering skier for a long time . The victory in the ski orienteering world cup in 1997 was her greatest international success in this sport. In the same year, 1997, Pedersen returned to cross-country skiing.

Pedersen won silver with the relay at the 2002 Winter Olympics . At the 2003 World Championships she won bronze in the sprint and over 10 km classic as well as silver with the relay, at the 2005 World Championships gold with the relay. At the 2006 Winter Olympics , she won the bronze medal in the classic 10 km run. At the 45 km Wasalauf on March 4th of the same year she finished second behind Marit Bjørgen . After she announced her immediate retirement at the end of the 2005/2006 season in March 2006, she resigned in November of the same year and will complete another season at the "ripe" age of 42.

On January 7, 2006, Hilde (41 years old) won the 10 km classic race in Otepää Estonia and is the oldest woman to have won a World Cup race. On 28 January 2007 she won the the worldloppet belonging Marcialonga run.

After the end of the 2006/2007 season, Pedersen stated that he only wanted to devote himself to the marathon routes. Accordingly, at the beginning of the 2007/2008 season, she was listed in the FIS statistics as “retired”. Pedersen then caused a surprise when she took part in the first race of the season on November 24th, 2007 in Beitostoelen and finished in a respectable 13th place in the presence of the entire world elite at the age of 43. Since that last appearance in the World Cup, she has only taken part in the lower-class FIS Cup, Norwegian championships or the Cross-Country Marathon Cup . So she finished 19th at the FIS Cup in Stokke on January 21, 2010 at the age of 45.

Hilde G. Pedersen has two daughters, the twins Eli Gjermundshaug Pedersen and Ida Gjermundshaug Pedersen (born April 6, 1988). At the Norwegian Championships in 2006 they won together 1st place in the relay.
