Juan Mauricio Soler Hernández (born January 14, 1983 in Ramiriquí , Boyacá ) is a former Colombian cyclist .

Career

In 2006 Soler won the French stage race Circuit de Lorraine . In Milan-Turin he was already in 25th place. This season he drove for the Italian Professional Continental Team Acqua e Sapone . He has already participated in ProTour events through wildcards . Soler was also set up by the Colombian Cycling Association for the road cycling world championship in Salzburg. However, he had to end the race early and did not make it to the finish.

For the 2007 season he moved to the British team Barloworld , which was admitted to the Tour de France by wildcard . There he won the ninth stage on July 17, 2007 and won the mountain classification .

After Soler had won the 2nd stage of the Tour de Suisse 2011 and wore the yellow jersey for one day, he had a serious fall as second in the overall standings at the beginning of the 6th stage on June 16 and suffered a fracture of the base of the skull Ankle and lung injuries. He was transported by helicopter to the St. Gallen Cantonal Hospital , where he was temporarily put into an artificial coma . Due to an improvement in his condition, he was relocated to Pamplona , Spain, his adopted home at the beginning of July , and has been in ongoing rehabilitation since then , the end of which is not in sight. In October, four months after his fall, Soler was able to leave the Pamplona hospital and is scheduled to return to his homeland in Colombia in December .

On July 18, 2012, it was announced that the Colombian will likely not be able to return to cycling despite his ongoing rehabilitation.
