UCI track world championships 1910

Because of the evaluation of the sprint run between Émile Friol (left), Willy Arend (hidden) and Henry Mayer (right) in favor of Friol, there was a dispute.

Mayer protested to the referee Carozzi against his decision.

The 11th UCI Track World Championships took place on July 17th, 24th and 25th, 1910 in Brussels on the Karreveld cycle track .

The Karreveld Velodrome

The 400 meter long Karreveld cycle track was open and its pavement was made of wood. It was located in a part of Brussels called Karreveld after the castle of the same name located there. The railway opened on May 17, 1908 and closed in 1916. The Belgian rail championships also took place there in 1909 and 1911. In 1909, the Belgian racing driver Karel Verbist was killed on this cycling track .

Course of the World Cup

The rail world championships were characterized by numerous conflicts over alleged wrong decisions. When it came to the decision for the Amateurs' World Aviation Championship, the Frenchman Paul Texier held the German driver Karl Neumer in order to enable the British William Bailey to win. The German representatives then announced that they would not take part in any more races until this matter had been resolved satisfactorily. Although Bailey was ultimately declared the winner, Texier was given a three-month ban. The multiple world champion Leon Meredith was also suspended because he had evidently withdrawn from the start on an excuse for fear of defeat.

When, in the opinion of the Germans, a wrong decision was made in the races for the professional sprint world championship, the German drivers were withdrawn from the " Association of German Radrennbahn " (VDR) and all German associations withdrew from the " Union Cycliste Internationale ". Out of solidarity followed the “Swiss Cyclists Association” (SRB) and the “Union Lodz” from Poland.

The "Upper World Championship"

Germany organized on September 18, 1910 in Steglitz b. Berlin an unofficial "upper world championship" of professional stayers . The result: 1. Piet Dickentman (NED), 2. Fritz Ryser (SUI), 3.  Fritz Theile (GER).
