La Plagne Tarentaise is located around 29 kilometers east-southeast of Albertville in the Tarentaise . The Isère flows through the municipality . La Plagne Tarentaise is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Beaufort in the north, Les Chapelles in the east and northeast, Landry in the east, Peisey-Nancroix in the southeast, Champagny-en-Vanoise in the south, Bozel in the southwest and Aime-la-Plagne in the west.

On January 1, 2016, La Plagne Tarentaise was formed as Commune nouvelle from the previously independent municipalities of Bellentre , La Côte-d'Aime , Mâcot-la-Plagne and Valezan .
