Peisey-Nancroix is a French municipality with 642 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Peisey-Nancroix is located within the Tarentaise . It consists of the villages of Peisey at 1,320 m and Nancroix, 2 km away, at 1,450 m , plus a number of other smaller villages. The highest point of the municipality is the summit of Mont Pourri at an altitude of 3779 m , which is located within the Vanoise National Park . The valley of Peisey-Nancroix is dominated on the south side by the massif Bellecôte ( 3417 m ). Several mountain streams flow through the valley, the largest of them being the Ponthurin, which flows from Lac de la Plagne over several gorges to Landry , where it flows into the Isère .
history
At the beginning of the 18th century, the Notre Dame des Vernettes chapel was built at an altitude of 1816 m and can be reached in an hour on foot from Nancroix.
Mining of ores began at the end of the 18th century. Between 1802 and 1815, Peisey-Nancroix was the seat of the École des Mines , an engineering school specializing in mining science.
Since 1934 the place Peisey has officially adopted the name Peisey-Nancroix.
Sports
Peisey-Nancroix offers a variety of hiking opportunities in summer, in particular the place is the starting point for hikes on the GR 5 via Rosuel into the Vanoise National Park.
Winter sports have a long tradition in Peisey-Nancroix. The first private chairlift in France was opened here in 1948. There is now the Peisey-Vallandry ski station, which consists of the «Plan Peisey» and «Vallandry», which belongs to the neighboring municipality of Landry. Peisey-Vallandry, together with Les Arcs and La Plagne, forms the Paradiski ski pass network .
