Lavergne is a French municipality with 593 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Marmande and the canton of Le Val du Dropt (until 2015: canton of Lauzun ).
The name of the community is derived from the Gallic word verma ( German alder ).
The inhabitants are called Lavergnois and Lavergnoises .
geography
Lavergne is located about 22 kilometers northeast of Marmande and about 30 kilometers northwest of Villeneuve-sur-Lot in the historic province of Agenais on the northern edge of the department.

Lavergne lies in the catchment area of the Garonne River .
The Dourdenne , a tributary of the Dropt , crosses the territory of the municipality together with its tributaries, the Ruisseau de la Forêt and the Ruisseau du Saut du Loup.
Population development
After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 1,240 by the first half of the 19th century. In the period that followed, the size of the community decreased with short recovery phases until it was able to stabilize at a level between 550 and 600 inhabitants since the 1960s.

Attractions
Saint-Maxence church
It was originally built in the 11th century, but was completely rebuilt after a fire in the 15th century.
Notre-Dame de la Mothe d'Ales church
It was built in the 11th century and remodeled in the 15th century. It contains two sculptures from the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century. They show Mary in the representations of the immaculate conception and with the baby Jesus . There is also a 185 cm high and 250 cm wide painting from the 18th century depicting the crucifixion of Jesus . All three works are inscribed or classified as a monument historique of movable goods.
Calvary
It was made from iroko wood in 1895 and restored in 1990 thanks to a donation from a Lebanese Christian .

The municipality has a public preschool and elementary school with 66 students in the 2018/2019 school year.
