Nowaja Lyalja ( Russian Новая Ляля ) is a city in Sverdlovsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 12,734 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the eastern edge of the Urals , about 300 km north of the oblast capital Yekaterinburg , on the Lyalja River , a right tributary of the Soswa . The climate is continental.
The city of Novaya Lyalia is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
Novaya Lyalya is located on the Kuschwa ( Goroblagodatskaya station ) - Serow railway that opened in 1906 . The city's train station is called Lyalja .
history
Novaya Lyalya was built in 1723 in connection with the construction of a state-owned copper smelter , which was closed again in 1744.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, the place developed into a center of wood processing and paper production. In 1938 he received town charter. The name is derived from the river Ljalja ( Mansian for river of enemies ) and means New- Lyalja (Russian nowaja , fem. For new ) in contrast to Staraya Ljalja / Old-Ljalja , a village about 50 km upstream.
In Novaya Lyalia there was a prisoner of war camp 318 for German prisoners of war of the Second World War .

Culture and sights
In the village of Lobwa, a few kilometers to the north, there has been a small local museum since 1997.
economy
Novaya Lyalya is a center of the wood and paper industry ( Lyalja-les companies , cellulose and paper combine ). There are also companies in the food industry based on the agricultural area in the area (potatoes, vegetables, cattle farming).
