O'Brien Smith

O'Brien Smith (born around 1756 in Ireland , † April 27, 1811 ) was an American politician . Between 1805 and 1807 he represented the state of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Little information is available about the life of O'Brien Smith. Neither his exact place of birth nor the date of birth are known. The sources believe that he was born in Ireland around 1756. He grew up in his homeland and came to South Carolina after the American Revolutionary War ended . On July 31, 1784, he took the oath of allegiance to the United States.

Smith began a political career in his new home. Between 1791 and 1799 he was a member of the House of Representatives from South Carolina . In 1803 he was elected to the State Senate. In the congressional election of 1804 he was elected as a candidate for the Democratic Republican Party in the fourth constituency of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Wade Hampton on March 4, 1805 . By March 3, 1807, he completed a term in Congress .

Smith's future path is as uncertain as his origin. He died on April 27, 1811 in an unknown location and was buried near Jacksonboro .
