Kirchwalsede is a municipality in the municipality of Bothel in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district in Lower Saxony .

geography

Kirchwalsede lies exactly in the triangle between Rotenburg (Wümme) , Visselhövede and Verden (Aller) in a foothill of the Achim-Verdener Geest , which belongs to the natural area Stader Geest , with Rotenburg (Wümme) being the closest town with 12.3 km. In terms of area, Kirchwalsede is by far the largest municipality in the Bothel municipality.

The Kirchwalsede community includes the villages of Kirchwalsede, Riekenbostel, Weißenmoor, Federlohmühlen and partly Düsternheide (the other part belongs to Wittorf (Visselhövede) ).

Neighboring communities are Hemsbünde , Visselhövede , Kirchlinteln ( Verden district ), Westerwalsede and Rotenburg (Wümme) .

history

The original name Walsede goes back to the river name Walse, whose identity with the Fuhlbach, which still exists today, is proven by old field names. The ending -sede suggests the name research to a period between the 1st and 5th centuries. The subsidiary settlements Westerwalsede and Süderwalsede were created later .

Westerwalsede was mentioned for the first time in 1231; Süderwalsede and Walsede did not find their way into a property register of the Verden bishop until 1320 .

The current name has been in use since the late 17th century. In addition to Wester- and Süderwalsede, Odeweg and Schafwinkel of the unified parish of Kirchlinteln in the district of Verden also belong to the associated parish . The Protestant Bishop Eberhard von Holle introduced the Reformation in the parish in 1567 , which could be repealed for two years by the imperial edict of restitution in 1629 . In 1628 Kirchwalsede was badly affected by the plague , so that only three married couples were spared the disease.

In 1645 the place with the Duchy of Verden fell to Sweden . In 1712 Kirchwalsede became Danish and in 1719 the Hanoverian Elector Georg Ludwig again took over the Duchy of Verden. Between 1805 and 1813 Kirchwalsede belonged to France for most of the time due to the conquests of Napoleon . The liberation from French rule takes place on October 12, 1813 by Russian-Prussian troops. After that, Kirchwalsede belonged to the Kingdom of Hanover . From 1866 followed 80 years of membership in Prussia , which was dissolved by the victorious powers in 1946.

Since the regional reform on March 1, 1974, Kirch- und Westerwalsede have been administered mainly by the joint municipality of Bothel.

On March 1, 1974, the neighboring municipality of Riekenbostel was incorporated.

In the core of Kirchwalsede is the St. Bartholomäus Church, a stone church built between 1170 and 1180. Most of the denominational residents belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Evangelical Lutheran Christians belong to the Kirchwalsede parish within the church region of Visselhövede, in which the parishes Brockel , Kirchwalsede and Visselhövede are united. The responsible Roman Catholic parish is located in Rotenburg with the Corpus Christi parish . There are also several free church congregations.

The council of the Kirchwalsede municipality consists of eleven councilors. The great bull lake

The Kirchwalseder municipality is characterized by its natural landscape. In Kirchwalsede z. B. more than 2000 old trees. There is also an upland moor (Kolken) on Kirchwalseder municipality, but the Bullensee nature reserve probably has the highest recreational value.

Sights include:

• St. Bartholomew's Church, a stone church built between 1170 and 1180, which is one of the most beautiful in the Lower Saxony area. An image of the church is also used as the coat of arms of the Kirchwalsede community and the shooting club.
