RuPaul's Drag Race is since 2009-annual Reality - talent show by and starring the drag queen RuPaul compete as a presenter and jury member, in the drag queens compete. So far, a total of 153 different drag queens have participated in 12 seasons, in which a winner waschosenas America's Next Drag Superstar and mostly a Miss Congeniality by the audience. Of these, four participants have so far competed in several relays. The candidates are eliminated because at the end of each episode the two worst performers in a lip- sync duel, after which RuPaul determines which one should go. It can also happen that both are allowed to stay or have to leave. In addition to this regular elimination process, one candidate has been disqualified within the recorded episodes (Willam in season 4) and one has been eliminated from the show due to injury (Eureka in season 9). With Sherry Pie in season 12, a queen was disqualified during the broadcast of the recorded episodes.

Since 2012, in addition to the regular seasons, there have also been All Stars seasons in which participants from the regular seasons compete again. In five seasons so far, 48 candidates have competed, four of which have participated in several All Stars seasons . Five winners were chosen because RuPaul named two winners for the first time in the fourth season. In the first season, the candidates started in teams of two; Since the second season the candidates have been competing individually and up to the fourth season the lipsync duel was contested by the two best, the winner of which can then eliminate one participant from the competition. In the fifth season, RuPaul only determines one challenge winner and in addition to the candidates, other former participants appear as Lip Sync Assassin , against whom the challenge winner contests the lipsync duel.

In 2018 a Christmas special Holi-slay Spectacular was broadcast, in which eight participants competed for the title "Drag Race Christmas Queen" and all of them were declared winners by RuPaul.

Season 1 (2009)

In the first season, which aired from February 2 to March 23, 2009, nine candidates took part. Nina Flowers was selected as a participant through a vote by the audience.

Season 2 (2010)

Raven, runner-up in Season 2 and Season 1 All Stars , has been RuPaul's make-up artist since 2017

Shangela participated in the second and third regular seasons, the third All Stars season and the Holi-slay Spectacular special.

Tatianna participated in the second season and Morgan McMichaels in the third season of All Stars ; Sonique at the Holi-slay Spectacular Special. Jujubee is again participating in the fifth season of All Stars .

Shangela will be the first competitor to re-enter from a previous season; Carmen Carrera the first participant to return after being kicked out within the same season.

Four participants, Alexis Mateo, Manila Luzon, Mimi Imfurst and Yara Sofia, returned for the first season of All Stars . Manila formed a team there with Latrice Royale from season four; both took part again as single candidates in the fourth season of All Stars . Alexis Mateo is again participating in the fifth season of All Stars , in which Mariah (now Mariah Balenciaga) and India Ferrah also return.

Season 4 (2012)

Alyssa Edwards, a participant in the fifth season and the second All Stars season, received her own Netflix television series, Dancing Queens , in 2018 .

Season 9 (2017)

Sasha Velor, winner of the ninth season, appears in drag with a bald head and a monobrow .

Eureka O'Hara participated in the ninth and tenth seasons.

The ninth season, which premiered from March 24 to June 23, 2017, featured fourteen candidates, of which Cynthia Lee Fontaine, who returned from season eight, appeared as a surprise candidate at the end of the first episode.

Brooke Lynn Hytes, the first Canadian native , has been announced as a judge for the Drag Race Canada offshoot .

Season 1 (2012)

Season four finalist and Season One All Stars winner Chad Michaels is known for her imitations of Cher .

Twelve candidates took part in the first All Stars season, which was first broadcast from October 22 to November 26, 2012. In the first season of All Stars , the competition mode differs from the regular seasons and the other All Stars seasons in that the participants compete in teams of two. After only one member of the worst teams competed in lipsync, the team members dropped out together. The last two teams will only be disbanded in the final so that a single drag queen can be chosen as the winner.

From the second season, the mode changed so that the candidates compete individually again and the two best contest the lipsync duel, the winner thereby having the opportunity to eliminate one of the two worst. Season 5 (2020)

Shea Couleé is the fifth season winner.

Ten candidates took part in the fifth season, which was broadcast from June 5 to July 24, 2020. In the fifth season the mode has been changed in such a way that RuPaul appoints only one challenge winner in addition to the two worst participants and, in addition to the candidates, other former participants appear as so-called lip sync assassins , i.e. H. those who excelled in their regular season through special talent in the lipsync duel and thus eliminated several opponents. The challenge winner must compete against the Lip Sync Assassin in order to eliminate the worst she has chosen if she wins. Additionally, the remaining contestants choose one of the worst two who would eliminate them and then be eliminated if the Lip Sync Assassin wins the duel.

RuPaul's Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular (2018)

In the Christmas special Holi-slay Spectacular , which was broadcast on December 7th, 2018, eight candidates competed in four lip-sync duels for the title of "Drag Race Christmas Queen". RuPaul declared all eight winners.
