Radical 148 with the meaning " horn , corner " is one of 20 of the 214 traditional radicals in Chinese writing that are written with seven strokes. With 17 character combinations in Mathews' Chinese-English Dictionary, there are only a few characters that can be found under this radical in the lexicon.
The oracle bone shape of this character shows a horn on an animal head.
触 (= touch, hit something) contains 蜀 as a carrier of sound and 角 as a carrier of meaning for touching or hitting something. 解 (= separate, loosen) contains the components 刀 (= knife), 牛 (= cow) and 角 (= horn). Today, however, the knife (zwei) represents two hands that can be recognized in the oracle bone and bronze font. These two hands break the horn of the ox (牛) that is underneath. So 解 is a combined sign.
