The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Montmorillon and the canton of Civray . The inhabitants are called the Champenois .

Champagné-le-Sec is about 60 kilometers south-southwest of Poitiers . Champagné-le-Sec is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Chaunay in the north and west, Blanzay in the east, Saint-Pierre-d'Exideuil in the southeast and Linazay in the south.
