Mauprévoir is a western French community with 603 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Montmorillon and the canton of Civray (until 2015: canton of Availles-Limouzine ).

Mauprévoir is located about 47 kilometers south-southeast of Poitiers on the Payroux River . The Clain runs in the east of the municipality . Mauprévoir is surrounded by the neighboring communities Payroux in the north and north-west, Saint-Martin-l'Ars in the north and north-east, Pressac in the south and south-east, Pleuville in the south and Charroux in the west and south-west.
The former Route nationale 741 runs through the municipality .
