The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Montmorillon and the canton of Civray . The inhabitants are called Linazéens .

Linazay is about 63 kilometers south-southwest of Poitiers . Linazay is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Champagné-le-Sec in the north, Saint-Pierre-d'Exideuil in the east and northeast, Saint-Saviol in the east and southeast, Limalonges in the south and Chaunay in the west and northwest.
