history

During the development into a bourgeois metropolis in the late 19th century, numerous establishments for evening entertainment emerged in Berlin . In the so-called Roaring Twenties , the city's nightlife achieved international fame.

bathtub Schöneberg 1949 Nürnberger Strasse 50 in the basement of today's Hotel Ellington. The entrance from Nürnberger Strasse was walled up. Currently no longer recognizable.

Big Eden Charlottenburg 1967 2002 Former celebrity disco on Kurfürstendamm ; operated by Rolf Eden . Venue of disco dancer championships with a prominent jury.

countdown Borsigwalde (at that time: Tegel ) 1966 1972 Ernststraße 5–7, was continued under the same name in another location in Tegel, Gorkistraße 4 after a fire from 1975. Located on the 1st floor, access was via an escalator.
Skylight Kreuzberg 1961 Located on the 5th floor of an office building on Mehringdamm in Kreuzberg. Concerts with Birth Control , Mythos etc. also took place there . a. instead of. Frank Zander began his career there as the "great-great-grandson of Frankenstein". Disc jockeys were u. a. the radio presenter Nero Brandenburg and the later successful country singer Gunter Gabriel . Establishment of the Berliner Jugendclub e. V.

La Belle Friedenau 1986 Hauptstrasse 78. Was frequently visited by GI’s . After a bomb attack on April 5, 1986, it was no longer operated as a discotheque.
True to the line Charlottenburg 1982 2008 Formerly located to the right of the bikini house in the basement. Stairs led down to the disco. A lot of New Wave was played here. Prominent guests were u. a. Depeche Mode .

SOUND Zoo 1988 Genthiner Strasse 26. A lot of rock was played here. Was also known as a drug nightclub. Also known from the book Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo .
Space Charlottenburg Bismarckstrasse 90. In the basement of the house, around 1980 a roller disco with several columns that you had to curve around. Had a lighting system that was unusual for the time.
Sugar Shack Wilmersdorf Successor to the bathtub in Nürnberger Straße , right next to the legendary jungle . The entrance was bricked up and led to the basement of what is now the Hotel Ellington.
