The Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey ( LNAH ) was founded in 2004 and is a professional ice hockey league of the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Québec . It is not affiliated with the US Junior League North American Hockey League (NAHL).

history

The league was founded in 1996 as "Ligue de hockey semi-professionnelle du Québec (LHSPQ)" and changed its name in 2003 to "Ligue de hockey senior majeur du Québec (LHSMQ)" today's name. The LNAH does not stand for filigree ice hockey, but for hard action and sometimes unfair fouls, attacks and fights, in which the entire team is involved, which also contributes to its popularity.

Despite their bad reputation, reputable players of the NHL and AHL repeatedly find their way into the LNAH. During the lockout in the 2004/05 season, NHL players such as Donald Brashear , Sylvain Blouin , Sébastien Caron , Mathieu Biron , Marc-André Bergeron and Sébastien Charpentier played in the LNAH for the entire season.
