The Cupa României in the 2005/06 season was the 68th tournament for the Romanian Football Cup . The winner for the twelfth time was Rapid Bucharest , which was able to prevail in the final on May 17, 2006 against FC Național Bucharest . Rapid qualified for the UEFA Cup . Defending champions Dinamo Bucharest were eliminated in the round of 16.

The clubs of Divizia A only started in the round of the last 32 teams. In the eighth and quarter-finals, all games took place on a neutral seat. Only one game was played at a time, the semi-finals were decided in the first and second leg. If only one game took place and it was tied after 90 minutes or if no decision could be made in both games taking into account the away goals rule , an extension of 30 minutes followed. If after that there was still no decision, the decision was made on penalties .
