Coat of arms of the House of Dampierre (Aube)

Dampierre was the family of the lords of Dampierre-sur-l'Aube , who got married in the possession of numerous other estates in France, but could not hold them. These include:

The House of Dampierre (which died out in the 16th century) was not only the ancestors of the Bourbons and the House of Burgundy , but also an essential part of the territorial basis of these families.

In addition to the Dampierre house from Dampierre-sur-l'Aube , there were numerous other noble families with the name Dampierre, two of which are still in bloom today.

Other de Dampierre families

In addition to the lords of Dampierre (Aube) discussed above, there were fourteen other noble families in France with the name Dampierre , two of which still exist today:

Coat of arms of the Dampierre (-Saint-Nicolas)

One is the family of the same name from Picardy with headquarters in Dampierre-Saint-Nicolas in the Seine-Maritime department, which was first mentioned in 1154 with Robert de Dampierre. She was raised with Pierre (III.) De Dampierre de Millancourt (1691-1754) in the priomogeneous Marquis status, represented today by Marquis Elie de Dampierre (* 1952). The Viscount Richard de Dampierre (1857–1906) from a younger line was raised by the Pope to Duke of San Lorenzo Nuovo , a title that expired with his grandson Richard (1916–2004); his sister Emanuelle (1913–2012) married the Spanish king's son Jaime de Borbón in 1935 .

The second still flourishing family are the du Val, Comtes de Dampierre from Champagne, based at Castle Hans (Marne) . Her came the imperial field marshal in the Thirty Years War Henri du Val, Comte de Dampierre (1580-1620) and the French general Maurice Henri Du Val, Comte de Dampierre (1823-1892).
