About this picture

Dittelbrunn ( East Franconian Diddlhädsch ) is a municipality and a place in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt . The municipality's town hall is located in the Hambach district . The district of Dittelbrunn borders directly on Schweinfurt and, due to its location on the edge of the Schweinfurt Rhön, is a popular residential suburb to which the Schweinfurt bourgeoisie moved since the 1970s and whose population almost tripled, while industrialization made the hambach district further north into a workers' village .

geography

The community borders the independent city of Schweinfurt and is located on the western edge of the Schweinfurt Rhön. The highest point is the Wachtler Berg (384 m). The Marienbach rises in the municipality .

geology

According to the structure of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, the municipality is located in the Hesselbacher Waldland ("Schweinfurter Rhön ") north of the Schweinfurt basin and belongs with this to the Main Franconian plates within the Swabian-Franconian layered plain. Of the sediments deposited there 280–65 million years ago, only the Triassic layers (around 200 million years) of the karst limestone and the Keuper are on the surface. There are also ice age loess deposits . The pending limestone was mined in quarries in Holzhausen.

Neighboring communities

In the south, the districts of Haardt and Eselshöhe border the city of Schweinfurt . In the east is the municipality of Üchtelhausen with the districts of Zell and Weipoltshausen, in the west are the municipal areas of Niederwerrn and Poppenhausen with the districts of Maibach and Pfersdorf, and in the north is the border with the district of Bad Kissingen with the municipality of Rannungen .

Community structure

Dittelbrunn consists of the four districts Dittelbrunn, Hambach , Holzhausen and Pfändhausen . The Lauerbach desert lies northeast of Hambach in the municipality .

  • Dittelbrunn

largest and southernmost district with 3524 inhabitants (December 31, 2012) , first documented mention in 1282 as "Tytelbrvnn" (dialect name "Diddlbrünn")

  • Hambach

second largest district in the geographical center with 2593 inhabitants (December 31, 2012) , first documented mention in 1264 as "Hagenbuch" (dialect name "Hamich")

  • Pfandhausen

northernmost district with 579 inhabitants (December 31, 2012) , first documented mention in 1307 as Pfentenhusen (dialect name Milichhouf )

  • Holzhausen

smallest district with 417 inhabitants (December 31, 2012) , first documented mention in 1137 as "Holzhusun" (dialect name "Holzhausn")

climate

The climate in the municipality is characterized by the Spessart, Rhön and Steigerwald. This framing low mountain range means that the municipal area is around 500 mm per year in one of the areas with the lowest rainfall in Germany. The average annual temperature is around 9 ° C.

history

prehistory

The Schweinfurt area with its fertile cultivation areas is rich in prehistoric and early historical evidence, especially in the Dittelbrunn and Hambach districts . The reports of finds are sparse in the northern municipal area, the poorer soils and the lack of water are likely to be the reason for this. A Mesolithic find (around 10,000 BC) is documented in Dittelbrunn, a similar one cannot be confirmed with absolute certainty in Hambach. Neolithic finds and settlement sites (around 4000 BC) have been documented several times in Dittelbrunn and Hambach, as well as in Pfändhausen. In Hambach, the urn field culture (around 1200 BC) and the Hallstatt period (700 to 400 BC) are represented in the Holzspitze forest department with several barrows . During an emergency excavation in 1962, several urns and bronze toilet utensils were recovered. Settlement remains from the La Tène period (around 450 BC) were found in the Hambach land department in Hamberg during an excavation carried out by the State Office for Monument Preservation in 1976.

Middle Ages and Modern Times

The natural widening of the Main in two arms in the Schweinfurt area has brought shallow, shallow water since ancient times. This fact was known to the early people and they used it as a ford . As a result, an old Rome pilgrimage directory from the 13th century, for example, tells us that an old road coming from “Murestadt” ( Münnerstadt ) through the valley to Rannungen, past the eight-arrows on Pfändhäuser Flur, over the wooden houses Wachtelsberg, west of the Hamberges forming the district boundary Hambach / Maibach, in the direction of Kreuzer. This old street, once very important nationally as a north-south connection, lost its function with the completion of the new Würzburg – Meiningen road in 1796 and can only be verified in a few places today due to abandonment and land consolidation .

The municipality of Dittelbrunn was probably finally settled in the 8th century. The first names of the four districts are also more recent, but the neighboring settlements Schweinfurt and Maibach, 791, Pfersdorf 763, Rannungen 772, Jeussing 791 and Zell 823 speak for the first time in favor of this assumption. The Lauerbach desert in the Hambach district of Dittelbrunn was first mentioned in 1302.

Incorporation, creation of the new community

During the regional reform in Bavaria , the Free State had already decided to incorporate Dittelbrunn, Niederwerrn and Sennfeld into Schweinfurt. Afterwards, the decision was completely reversed on the instructions of the native Niederwerrn State Secretary Erwin Lauerbach .

The new municipality was created on May 1, 1978 during the regional reform . The formerly independent municipalities (Dittelbrunn in the old regional layout, Hambach, Holzhausen and Pfändhausen) were partially merged against fierce resistance . The new municipality was named after the largest part of the municipality, Dittelbrunn. The new town hall and later the municipal building yard were built in the geographical center in Hambach.

Municipal coat of arms

In July 1965, the formerly independent municipality of Hambach was allowed to use a coat of arms by the Bavarian State Ministry . The design came from Edgar Schulz (son of the deceased honorary citizen Gottfried Schulz). After the regional reform in 1978, the municipality of Dittelbrunn took over the Hambach coat of arms for all districts.

Blazon: “Shield split; the front part of a black hen at the gap in gold on a half green three-mountain, behind in red a silver ear of barley ”.

The colors silver and red in the back half of the shield reminds of the once close relationship between the community and the Würzburg monastery . The 509 reduced Henneberg coat of arms symbolizes the former rule. The barley ear indicates the intensified cultivation of quality barley for breweries since around 1900 .

After the territorial reform in 1978, in which the formerly independent communities Hambach, Dittelbrunn, Holzhausen and Pfändhausen were merged into one community after some resistance, a new town hall was necessary. This functional new building (architect: Jürgen Michal) was placed in the geographic center of Hambach because of the better accessibility. In order to make the building look smaller, it was equipped with three gable roofs. The facade contains half-timbered pieces that fit the building better into its surroundings thanks to this typical Franconian architectural style. It is right on the forest near the Mariengrotte.
