Drake & Josh is an American comedy series broadcast by Nickelodeon television .
The television series is very popular with both children and teenagers and adults because of its humor . In 2005 filming was interrupted because Drake Bell was in a car accident. In 2006 they continued shooting. In early 2007, Drake Bell announced that the series was over and that no more episodes would be produced.
action
This TV series is about stepbrothers Drake and Josh who have nothing in common. However, Josh's father and Drake's mother want to get married and so they move in together. While Josh is more of a conscientious and good student, Drake is more of a funny and sociable fellow. Many episodes are about Drake doing something stupid and the two have to pay for it together. They often quarrel or their little sister Megan makes life difficult for them.
characters
Drake Parker
- The main interests of the teenagers, who only have fun in their heads, are girls and music, his favorite drink is ginger ale with malt beer (English " rootbeer ", which is an American cult soda drink and has nothing in common with beer). Although Drake often does something, he rarely gets into trouble for it. Often he shines with his lazy, stubborn, rather listless, dismissive, cheeky and relaxed attitude. Often his coolness or his good reputation, girls, music and fun seem to be his only interests, which sometimes makes him seem a bit selfish, unreasonable and irresponsible, but he has a good core and can be very helpful. Drake hates hugs. In his spare time he likes to play basketball or guitar, which is why he is more sporty and musical than school-based. Drake has his own rock band, with which he wins the annual San Diego talent competition. Drake isn't as intelligent as Josh, but he still always gets through in school. Drake is also very popular with classmates thanks to his looks and coolness. Drake eats almost nothing but unhealthy sweets, but that doesn't harm his figure. Drake is the biological brother of Megan and the biological son of Audrey Parker (Nichols). He's less than enthusiastic about Josh becoming his stepbrother at first, but over time they eventually become like real brothers, and while Drake doesn't really like showing it, he really does like Josh. Although Drake often makes a very cool and casual impression and is rarely really upset, he can sometimes be very panicked, even fearful or heated. Since Drake has a very big weakness for girls, he has friends over and over again in the course of the television series (according to his own statements, around 75), with whom he always breaks up after a short time. But that changed when Drake met Carly. At the end of the episode, Drake and Carly also get together. In the episode The Storm he is still with Carly. After a failed chemistry experiment and a week of disregard by Josh, Drake confesses that he needs Josh more than Josh needs him. In addition, he has a long-term record deal starting with the episode Die Riesengarnele after his latest hit Makes Me Happy became a number 1 hit.
Josh Nichols
- Josh is a dutiful and eager person who loves doing his homework and doing housework. In contrast to Drake, he is a good student, but is not very popular with his classmates. Josh likes to drink milk and has a great affection for his grandmother. Josh is very good at painting and drawing and is also an excellent pool player. In the series he is often described as charming and nice, other characteristics are helpfulness and willingness to work. Josh is always unlucky, very different from Drake. Although he always behaves in an exemplary manner and, unlike his brother, never does anything or does something forbidden, he still gets in constant trouble. In addition, he is very clumsy, scared, panicked, stubborn and fearful. Furthermore, he often seems very naive, childlike and gullible. He is easy to impress and can be influenced very much. Josh can put up with a lot, but he can also get impulsive when things get too colorful for him. He is very insecure and reserved when dealing with girls. Generally he is often very clumsy. Eventually he falls in love with Mindy Crenshaw, his former archenemy, and begins a tumultuous relationship with her. The sarcasm-loving teenager works in a movie theater after school. He's also an avid Oprah and magic fanatic and terrified of squirrels. He prefers to play video games. He's allergic to cheese balls. Josh, who was overweight at the beginning of the series, loses more and more weight in the course of the series and always invents strange swear words. His greatest dream is to become the chief assistant of the cinema where he works. At the end of the second film, Die Riesengarnele , he gets the golden vest and is back with Mindy. Josh has been the manager of Drake's band since the movie Drake and Josh: The Road to Hollywood . He also procures Drake and his band the record deal with SpinCity Records and their first appearance on MTV TRL.
Megan Parker
- The sister of Drake and Josh stands out in the TV series because she constantly plays pranks on the "Bubis", as she calls her brothers, and monitors them with her spy equipment. (Sometimes she also wired the whole house). Megan loves to tease and humiliate her brothers. She looks very scary to her two siblings. However, she also helps her brothers out of difficult situations. Megan is very shrewd, sassy, insidious, persistent and intelligent. Her parents consider her an angel, which Drake and Josh see differently. They often get the two of them in difficult situations and Megan also puts them under house arrest for one or two months. One learns that Megan takes oboe lessons and drives or is brought to soccer practice on her bike, which she always parks under Drake and Josh's room window. She has a hamster named Harvey. Megan also suffers from a cat hair allergy.
Walter Nichols
- Josh's father works for the local TV station Kanal 7, where he is the " weatherman ". At first Drake cannot understand his mother at all. Walter has an archenemy at his workplace named Bruce Winchill that Megan and Audrey are crazy about. Otherwise Walter is a very nice person and always tries to build a better relationship with Drake. He can do several wrestling moves.
Audrey Parker-Nichols
- Drake and Megan's mother. She has to deal with the disputes among the children and usually intervene in an arbitrating way. She is most attached to Megan and has a penchant for pickled cucumbers next to the TV.
Helen Ophelia Dubois
- Helen is the manager and boss of the cinema Josh works at. At the end of The King Shrimp , Helen gets married in the cinema. However, on this special occasion, a short circuit occurs in the cinema and a fire breaks out. To keep the mood, Drake suggests having the wedding ceremony in the parking lot and plays a song on the guitar. In Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh , Helen tells Helen that she divorced after two months. She likes Drake, but his brother Josh less.
Mindy Crenshaw
- Mindy was Josh's biggest competitor and later becomes his girlfriend. She is very intelligent and wins the research competition every year. She also hates Drake and tried to get him kicked out of school. But since Josh was with her, she has stopped doing it. After careful consideration, Mindy decided that she and Josh should take a little break from their relationship. Mindy and Josh get back together in the two-parter Die Riesengarnele .
Alice-Linda Hayfer
- Drake and Josh's English teacher hates Drake and keeps letting him know. She has a daughter named Kelly, a dog named Tiberius, and a husband named Jerold, who is the president of a newborn organization. Her daughter Kelly was also with Drake for a short time. She is from New Jersey, where she also tried her hand at being a stand-up comedian, but apparently failed.
Craig Ramirez and Eric Blonowitz
- The two gaunt classmates like to help Drake and Josh and often vie for their attention. The two are very intelligent and have their own radio station (ham radio). Because of their intelligence, the two are mostly used for plans by Drake and Josh. Both personify the stereotype of the nerd .
Crazy Steve
- Crazy Steve works at Helen's cinema. He often has outbursts of anger, e.g. B. if he feels disturbed by a moviegoer. That's why some of his colleagues are afraid of him. He can be soothed with a song called When She Goes The Mountain . Crazy Steve has a therapist to manage his temper tantrums.
Grandma Nichols
- She is the grandmother of Josh and the mother of Walter Nichols. She likes Josh but not Drake. She challenged Drake to a game of basketball, which made her lose in the beginning and win later. In the end she likes Drake.
Leah
- Leah is the employee at Helens Kino. She is good friends with Josh and is afraid of Crazy Steve.
Bruce Winchill
- Bruce Winchill is a weatherman with another channel and thus a competitor of Walter Nichols. He doesn't appear in the series, but Walter often mentions him. Audrey and Megan loved him for having such great hair. He often wins the award for the best weatherman.
Trevor
- Trevor is Drake's best friend and Scottie's brother. He only appears in the episode Josh, the Scapegoat , but is otherwise mentioned in other episodes. He gave Drake a beach buggy.
Cast and dubbing
The synchronized work took place in Munich. Hubertus von Lerchenfeld wrote the dialogue books and also directed the dialogue. Clemens Ostermann died unexpectedly on April 30, 2007 as a result of a lung collapse , before all episodes with him as Drake Bell's dubbing voice could be completely dubbed, so that Benedikt Weber took over his part in full. Since no suitable successor for Ostermann was found for a long time, the fourth season in Germany appeared a lot later than planned.

Drake & Josh: The king prawn
The record label Spin City Records wants Drake to get a record deal with them. His song Makes Me Happy would then be shown in a commercial for Daka Shoes . Drake's manager Josh lets himself be distracted by the giant prawns, which are fascinating to him, and overlooks the fact that the contract says that the label can change the song. After the label used this right and ruined the song, Drake fired his manager in his anger. In the cinema, Helen, who is about to get married, appoints Josh's former girlfriend Mindy as an assistant. A little later Josh swaps the song versions in the recording studio, so Drake's original version is broadcast on television. The label then sued them. The lawsuit was dropped a short time later, as Makes Me Happy landed at number 1 on the charts. In the evening, Helen gets married and Josh and Mindy get back together. At the end of the episode, Megan tells her brothers that Spin City Records sent them three dozen prawns, but almost all of them have been eaten by her and her friends. Then Drake and Josh fight over the last shrimp. (This is a reference to a scene on The Amanda Show ).

Trivia
- The television series was best known for The Amanda Show starring Amanda Bynes . There it was used as a gap filler and thus found a similar origin to, for example, the Simpsons , which were used as a gap filler in the Tracey Ullman Show.
- The television series was filmed at Sunset, 6230 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, Los Angeles and CA. However, the series is set in San Diego .
- In the television series there is a reference to the television series Hannah Montana . This became noticeable in the episode Cool, I'm turning sixteen! when Josh saw a documentary about avocados on TV at the beginning. Before that, he had switched on a channel that reported on "Susannah Louisiana".
- In the final two-parter ( Die Riesengarnele ) one of the film titles in the cinema Josh works in is Now she's Carly - a reference to Miranda Cosgrove's subsequent role in iCarly .
- Two other film titles in the two-parter are Four great seasons , which alludes to the four seasons of Drake & Josh , and Robin & Joe , which are the names of Drake Bell's parents.
- The television series had comparatively little budget available, which is why well-known guest stars were rather a rarity, but almost every guest star who appeared has already appeared on television. Torrey DeVitto, for example, distinguishes that her father was a long-time Billy Joel drummer . Probably the most famous guest star Tony Hawk found his place not in the television series, but in the film Drake & Josh Go Hollywood . Other notable guest appearances:
- Erik Estrada
- Gary Coleman
- Richard Biggs (died before it aired in the US)
- Paul Gleason
- Gabrielle Carteris
- Maggie Wheeler
- Emma Roberts
- Alyson Stoner
- AnnaSophia Robb
- Kaylee DeFer
- Vanessa Hudgens
- Torrey DeVitto
- Dianna Agron
- In episode 49 Benedikt Weber already spoke Drake Bell, but Clemens Ostermann's voice can be heard again one episode later.
- The notebooks are an allusion to Apple, but instead of an apple, the logo is a pear, which is also used in the iCarly , Sam & Cat , Zoey 101 and Victorious series.
- In the credits to Drake & Josh and the King Prawn, Drake and Josh fight over a shrimp when they were 16. This scene is from The Amanda Show , where the television series first became known as Sketch.
- In the episode Little Diva , Helen Dubois is suddenly replaced by another actress.
