The 2005/06 Elitserien season was the 31st season of the Swedish Elitserien . The preliminary round was played from September 26, 2005 to March 6, 2006, the play-offs began on March 10 and ended with the final game on April 18. Swedish champion 2005/06 was Färjestad BK , in the Kvalserien , a relegation round between the top four teams of the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan and the two last placed the Elitserien, the occupied Malmo Redhawks and Skellefteå AIK the first two places and thus played in the next season in the highest league. The two participants in the Elitserien, Södertälje SK and Leksands IF , however, relegated to the Allsvenskan.

Regular season

mode

The twelve teams of the Elitserien competed against each other in 50 season games, the first eight teams of the preliminary round competed against each other in the play-offs, the season was over for the teams in places 9 and 10, the last two had to go to the Kvalserien compete.

A win in regular time earned a team three points. In the event of a tie after regular time, extra time was played in which the winner received two points and the loser received one point. In the event of a tie after extra time, each team received one point. There were no points for a loss in regular time.

groups

The clubs were divided into three regional groups during the preliminary round, with the teams from the respective “derby groups” playing more games against each other than against teams from the other groups.
