Jalovec (Hungarian Jalóc ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 306 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Liptovský Mikuláš , part of the Žilinský kraj , and is part of the traditional Liptov region .

geography

The community is located in the central part of the basin Liptovská kotlina (part of the larger Podtatranská kotlina ) below the Western Tatras the stream Jalovčanka . The municipality extends to the main ridge of the Western Tatras and has a share of four two-thousanders : Spálená ( 2083  m nm ), Pachoľa ( 2167  m nm ), Baníkov ( 2178  m nm ) and Príslop ( 2142  m nm ). The center of the village lies at an altitude of 692  m nm and is eight kilometers from Liptovský Mikuláš .

Neighboring communities are Zuberec in the north, Žiar and Smrečany in the east, and Bobrovec in the south and west.

history

Bronze objects from the late La Tène period were found in the Jalovec municipality.

Jalovec was first mentioned in writing in 1391 as Ilochfeu . Until 1848 the village was owned by the Baan family from Trstené . In 1715 there were nine taxpayers in the village, in 1784 the village had 27 houses and 246 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 32 houses and 319 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and forest workers.

The place in Liptov County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia and finally to Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, in addition to the above-mentioned main sources of income, cooperage, wheelwright and weaving were also widespread, and residents made objects out of wood.

According to the 2011 census, Jalovec had 312 inhabitants, of whom 297 were Slovaks , three Czechs and one Polish and one inhabitant of another ethnic group. Ten residents gave no information about their ethnicity .

156 residents committed to the Evangelical Church AB, 86 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, six residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident to the Jehovah's Witnesses. 44 residents had no denomination and 19 residents had no denomination.
