history
Like many other villages in the area, Jeancourt was completely destroyed in the First World War.
On August 28, 1914, German troops occupied the place after brief skirmishes, which they held until March 1917. At that time the front was about ten kilometers west of Péronne . The Germans confiscated the houses in the village to accommodate their own troops. The residents were only entitled to a single room. Orders from the commandant's office obliged the population, under threat of sanctions, to provide wheat, eggs, milk, meat and vegetables for the soldiers at the front on a fixed date.
In February 1917 the residents of Jeancourt were evacuated in cattle wagons by train to Saint-Quentin and occupied territories in Belgium. The village remained occupied by the Germans until September 18, 1918.
