geography
Fayet is surrounded by the canton capital of Saint-Quentin in the south and the neighboring communities Francilly-Selency in the west, Gricourt in the north, the municipality of Lehaucourt in the north-east, which belongs to the canton Bohain-en-Vermandois, and the municipality of Omissy in the canton of Saint-Quentin-2 East.
history
Like many other villages in the area, Fayet was completely destroyed in the First World War.
On August 28, 1914, at around 3 a.m., German troops reached the place they held until March 1917. The front was at that time about twenty kilometers west of Péronne . The Germans confiscated the houses in the village to accommodate their own troops. The residents were only entitled to a single room. Orders from the commandant's office obliged the population, under threat of sanctions, to provide wheat, eggs, milk, meat and vegetables for the soldiers at the front on a fixed date.
In February 1917, the residents of Fayet were evacuated in cattle wagons by train to Saint-Quentin and occupied territories in Belgium. The village initially remained occupied by the Germans. It was not until September 18, 1918, that Fayet was finally captured by the 24th British Division .
Of the 390 inhabitants before the war in 1911, only 195 had returned to Fayet by 1921.
