Joncourt is a municipality with 299 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) 14 kilometers north of Saint-Quentin in the French department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France .
history
The region around Joncourt was part of the battlefield of the Allied Hundred Days Offensive during the First World War in autumn 1918. In September 1918, the attacks on the city of Saint-Quentin and the Saint-Quentin Canal were carried out in this area after the Battle of Épehy prepared the battle for the Canal de la Sambre à l'Oise east of Joncourt on November 4, 1918.
On October 1, 1918, the English officer and poet Wilfred Owen carried out a successful attack on German positions at Joncourt. Owen was awarded the Military Cross for his behavior in this attack .
