Essigny-le-Grand is a French commune with 1,022 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Aisne department in the region of Hauts-de-France (before 2016: Picardy ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Quentin and the canton of Ribemont . The inhabitants are called Essignaquois .
geography
Essigny-le-Grand is about seven kilometers south of Saint-Quentin on a plateau between the rivers Aisne and Somme . Essigny-le-Grand is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Castres in the north, Urvillers in the north-east, Benay in the east, Hinaicourt in the south-east, Gibercourt and Montescourt-Lizerolles in the south, Clastres in the south-west, Seraucourt-le-Grand in the west and Contescourt in the north-west.
