history

Early history

The place name was first mentioned in 815 as "Wachenrode". The place name is derived from an identical field name, whose basic word rod ( ahd. For Rodeland) and whose defining word is the personal name Wacho, Wahho . It can be assumed that the clearing was carried out by a person of this name in order to gain land for settlement. In 1008 the place was mentioned as "Wahhanród". This is the first documentary mention of the community of Wachenroth (see #Other ).

In 1434 Wachenroth received market rights .

At the end of the 18th century there were 69 properties in Wachenroth. The high court exercised the Bamberg center Wachenroth . The village and township government had the box office Wachenroth held. The landlords were the Kastenamt Wachenroth (castle, 2 taverns, 1 Gütleinhof, 1 Halbhof, 2 Höflein, 1 mill, 1 brewery, 39 Sölden , 11 houses, 1 sheep farm), the Schönborn rule of Pommersfelden (1 estate, 1 Sölde), the Weingartsgreuth manor (4 estates) and the parish of Wachenroth (vicarage). There was also the shepherd's house, school house and two gatehouses, all of which were parish buildings.

In 1802 Wachenroth came to Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict , the tax district Wachenroth was formed in 1808 , to which Albach , Eckartsmühle , Hammermühle and Volkersdorf belonged. In the same year the rural community Wachenroth was formed, which was congruent with the tax district. In administration and jurisdiction it was subordinate to the regional court of Höchstadt and in financial administration to the Rent Office of Höchstadt . In voluntary jurisdiction, 2 properties were subordinate to the Pommersfelden Patrimonial Court (until 1848) and 4 to the PG Weingartsgreuth (until 1848). In 1818 Simmersdorf was incorporated, but it was re-incorporated to Mühlhausen in 1824 . From 1862 Wachenroth was administered by the district office of Höchstadt an der Aisch (renamed the district of Höchstadt an der Aisch in 1938 ) and continued to be administered by the Rentamt Höchstadt (1920–1929: Finanzamt Höchstadt , from 1929: Finanzamt Forchheim ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court of Höchstadt until 1879, 1880–1959 district court of Höchstadt , from 1959 district court of Forchheim . The community originally had an area of 11.722 km².

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, the municipality of Weingartsgreuth was incorporated with the localities of Buchfeld, Horbach and Warmersdorf as part of the regional reform. On January 1, 1982, parts of the city of Schlüsselfeld ( Bamberg district ) were added.

Founding of the coat of arms: Wachenroth received a coat of arms from Bamberg Bishop Georg Schenk von Limpurg (1505 to 1522) in 1518. The guard is speaking for the place name as it was interpreted at the time. The lion, covered with a sloping beam, is the heraldic animal of the Bamberg diocese and reminds of its rule in Wachenroth.
