Leopold Kunschak Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Leopold Kunschak Prize has been awarded by the ÖVP since 1965 for outstanding work in the fields of humanities , social and economic sciences , occupational and social medicine and journalism. Recognition prizes are also awarded.

It is named after the Austrian politician of the Christian Social Party Leopold Kunschak (1871–1953). It is awarded annually on March 13, the anniversary of Kunschak's death. Wolfgang Mazal is the chairman of the Scientific Review Commission.

Awards

The importance of the award can also be seen from the ceremonial presentations. On March 3, 2006, the prize was awarded by Federal Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel in the Austrian Parliament with the participation of representatives from politics, business, science and culture . Werner Fasslabend , for his part, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Leopold Kunschak Prize, pointed out the European perspective of this prize. In 2005, too, the award ceremony was held by Schüssel. In 2008, Vice Chancellor Wilhelm Molterer presented the award to Lech Wałęsa .
