List of the sea rescue units of the DGzRS
Rescue units of the DGzRS in Lower Saxony and Bremen : Rescue cruisers in the 28-meter and 27.5-meter classes |
Rescue units of the DGzRS in Schleswig-Holstein : Rescue cruisers of the 46-meter and 36.5-meter classes |
Rescue units of the DGzRS in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania : Rescue cruisers of the 46-meter and 36.5-meter classes |
The German Society for Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS) currently maintains 60 rescue units at 54 stations in the North Sea and Baltic Sea, including 19 rescue cruisers (SRK / SK) and 41 rescue boats (SRB). Since Bremen, with the DGzRS headquarters, is the home port of the fleet, all units carry the Bremen flag as a jack on the bow.
The term rescue cruiser refers to the larger units of the 20 to 46 meter class. Despite their different sizes, all of these units have common features. Most noticeable is the daughter boat carried in a stern tub . With the exception of the rescue cruisers of the 20-meter class, all cruisers are constructed in such a way that the crew can live and sleep on board during the 14-day watch. There is also an upper control stand, which should provide the best possible all-round view. In the event of an emergency, the ships can operate independently at sea for several days. The rescue cruisers are manned by full-time rescuers, while the rescue boats are driven by volunteer crews. Boats of these classes are between 6.8 and 10 meters long and have no lounge or living areas on board. The small and more agile lifeboats are used to support the rescue cruisers or for smaller missions. Your typical area are the coastal areas as well as the Wadden Sea and the lagoon areas .
Current fleet
The DGzRS currently maintains units of eleven different types, including seven cruiser types and four boat types. Due to the life cycle time of 30 years, during which sufficient spare parts can still be procured for the technology used, the fleet is constantly being renewed. With 60 existing units, this means that on average two new units have to be put into service each year. Due to the strong expansion of the rescue fleet in the area of the former GDR after the fall of the Wall , the need for new buildings rose sharply around 2020. The availability of larger donations and inheritances made it possible to expand the new building program.
As a drive source are continuous diesel engines in use that rule to a propeller effect. Instead of the internal motors, outboard motors were installed in the RBBs in the new 8.9 m class and in the new work boats in the 20 m class . As the only ones at DGzRS, the boats in the 7 m class and the first four work boats in the 20 m class have a water jet propulsion system . Rigid inflatable boats (RIB) are used on the first four ships in the 20 m class and on the two large SRKs .
