List of castles, chateaus and fortresses in Denmark
This list includes castles , palaces and fortresses in Denmark as well as Danish mansions , palaces and fortified noble residences, the construction of which began in the 19th century at the latest.
Hovedstaden region
- Amalienborg Palace : the city residence of the Danish Queen in Copenhagen
- Bernstorff Castle : Small, simple castle in Gentofte , which was built by the Danish Foreign Minister Johan Hartvig Ernst Bernstorff as a summer residence
- Charlottenborg Palace : the seat of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in downtown Copenhagen
- Charlottenlund Palace : The palace in Gentofte was named after the Danish Princess Charlotte Amalie and was previously called Gyldenlund.
- Christiansborg Palace : Seat of the Danish Parliament in Copenhagen
- Frederiksberg Castle : Formerly a summer residence in Copenhagen, the castle now houses a military academy.
- Frederiksborg Castle : Moated castle in Hillerød on the island of Zealand
- Frederiksdal Castle : Small pleasure palace in Lyngby on the Furesee
- Fredensborg Palace : Baroque palace on the island of Zealand . Residence of the Danish royal family in spring and autumn.
- Hammershus Castle : One of the largest castle ruins in Northern Europe on the island of Bornholm
- Hvidøre Castle : the widow's seat of Empress Dagmar of Russia and Queen Alexandra of Great Britain
- Jægerspris Castle : Hunting lodge on Zealand
- Kokkendal Castle (North Zealand) : Castle from 1866 in the municipality of Hørsholm . (There is a castle of the same name in the Nordjylland region .)
- Kronborg Castle : Fortress in Helsingør on Zealand and the setting for Hamlet
- Lilleborg : Castle ruins on Bornholm from the middle of the 12th century
- Marienlyst Castle : The castle in Helsingør now houses a museum and an art gallery.
- Næsseslottet : Louis-seize-style mansion in Holte , now used as a hotel
- Rosenborg Castle : The castle in Copenhagen goes back to a two-story summer house of King Christian IV .
- Schæffergården : Rococo mansion in the Copenhagen district of Jægersborg, built 1755–1756, former residence of Prince Harald and Princess Helena , at times referred to as Jægersborghus.
- Worryfri Castle : Royal Castle in Lyngby near Copenhagen
Midtjylland region
- Brejninggaard : Manor house in Spjald, which now houses a school
- Clausholm Castle : the widow's seat of the Danish Queen Anna Sophie in Randers
- Frijsenborg Castle : Frijsenborg's imposing mansion in the style of the Dutch Renaissance
- Kalø Castle : The medieval castle on the Danish island of Kalø served as a prison for Gustav I. Wasa in 1518 .
- Nørre Vosborg : Historic manor in Vemb. Today it houses a conference hotel and cultural center.
- Rosenholm Castle : four-wing complex near Hornslet in the style of the Italian Renaissance
- Spøttrup Castle : Denmark's best-preserved medieval castle. It is located northwest of Skive in Jutland .
- Strandet : very simple classicist mansion from the 1790s in the municipality of Skive , restored from 2000 to 2005.
- Vilhelmsborg Castle : Classicist mansion from 1844 in Aarhus
- Marselisborg Palace : Residence of the royal family in Aarhus , built in 1902 for Christian and Alexandrine of Denmark
- Løvenholm Castle (formerly Gjesing Holm) in the village of Gjesing on Djursland .
North Jylland region
- Aggersborg : Denmark's largest Viking castle on Aggersund north of the city of Løgstør
- Dronninglund Castle : multi-wing castle in Brønderslev municipality .
- Fyrkat : Viking castle near Hobro
- Klitgården : Manor house from 1914 near Skagen , built as the summer residence of King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine
- Kokkedal Castle (North Jutland) : old, spacious castle near the Limfjord . (A castle of the same name can be found on Zealand in the Hovedstaden region .)
- Gammel Vraa Castle : Small medieval castle in Aalborg municipality , now used as a hotel.
- Kongstedlund : mansion from 1592 near Aalborg , residence of Dagmar of Denmark from 1922 to 1961 .
- Villestrup : three-winged mansion near Hobro in Mariagerfjord municipality , built 1538–1542. The baroque park is open to the public.
- Voergaard Castle : One of the best preserved castles in Denmark in Brønderslev
Sjælland region
- Aalholm Castle : mansion in a manor in Nysted
- Borreby moated castle ( Borreby Herreborg ): south of Skælskør on the Marguerite Route, manor house built in 1556 with park from 1750 in French-geometric style (the Danish writer and fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen was a welcome guest )
- Gavnø Castle : Rococo castle near Næstved in the south of Zealand
- Manor Gisselfeld : near Næstved, the Renaissance castle was from 1547 to 1575 by Peder Oxe built
- Kalundborg Slot : the former Kalundborg Castle, one of the strongest and most powerful in Denmark in the 15th century, demolished in 1670, only the remains of the foundation wall of one of the four mighty rectangular defense towers, the "Folen" tower, are still visible.
- Holsteinborg Slot (also Holsteinborg ): Castle, 13 km east of Skælskør, built between 1598 and 1651, owned by the Holstein family since 1707 in the twelfth generation
- Lerchenborg : Baroque mansion near Kalundborg
- Ledreborg Castle : Rococo castle in Lejre
- Liselund Castle : Small classicist country house on the island of Møn . It serves as a branch of the Danish National Museum .
- Ravnsborg Castle : There are only a few remains of the medieval castle in Lolland .
- Roskilde Palæ : Bishop's Palace behind Roskilde Cathedral, large three-wing complex, now also houses a wide variety of museums.
- Taarnborg Castle : Former castle complex in Slagelse
- Trelleborg : Former Viking castle west of Slagelse
- Vallø Castle : Castle from the 13th century south of Køge
- Vestborg Kalundborg : The former western castle in Kalundborg, today a castle stables with small remains, built in 1167 as the oldest of the two castles by Esbern Snare to protect the town's harbor
- Vordingborg Castle : ruins of the largest medieval castle in Denmark in Vordingborg
Region of Syddanmark
- Augustenborg Castle : Former seat of the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg in Augustenborg on the island of Alsen . The castle now houses a psychiatric clinic.
- Brahetrolleborg Castle : Former Cistercian monastery on Funen
- Brundlund Castle : The castle in Aabenraa now serves as an art museum
- Egeskov Castle : moated castle on the island of Funen
- Engelsholm Castle : The castle in Bredsten is used today as a college for fine arts and music.
- Gram Castle : Three-wing moated castle in Haderslev
- Gravenstein Castle : Summer residence of the Danish royal family in Gråsten
- Grøngaard Castle ruins, ruins east of Tønder , built by Duke Hans the Elder in 1570
- Holckenhavn Castle : The rooms in the castle south of Nyborg can be rented for events.
- Krengerup Castle : Manor house on the grounds of which there are today various museums and a park open to the public
- Koldinghus : The roots of the castle in Kolding go back to the 13th century. Today the facility serves as a museum.
- Lykkesholm Castle : The poet Hans Christian Andersen was inspired for several of his works in the castle on Funen .
- Nonnebakken : Partly excavated Viking castle in Odense
- Nordborg Castle : One of the oldest castles in Denmark in Nordborg on the island of Alsen. The castle was the headquarters of the partial duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Norburg .
- Nyborg Castle : Castle ruins in Nyborg on Fyn
- Riberhus Castle : Defunct royal castle in Ribe
- Sandbjerg Castle : mansion on the Sundewitt peninsula
- Schackenborg Castle : Baroque castle in Møgeltønder in South Jutland. The castle was the residence of Prince Joachim until 2014 .
- Sønderborg Castle : One of the oldest secular buildings in South Jutland in Sønderborg and ancestral seat of the noble house Schleswig-Holstein- Sønderborg
- Tørning Castle : Only the ramparts of the former castle in Northern Schleswig , Denmark are preserved.
- Tranekær Castle : Complex on Langeland Island in the middle of a large castle park
- Trøjborg Castle : ruins of a moated castle west of Visby
