Yeni Malatyaspor is a football club founded in 1986 in Malatya . Although the club's colors are actually yellow and black, red and yellow have also been used since summer 2012. The club has no relationship with the better-known and formerly successful club Malatyaspor and tried several times to take it over.

history

Early years

Club crest which was used until the name was changed to Yeni Malatyaspor at the start of the 2009/10 season

The association was founded in 1986 as an operating team of the city administration Malatya under the name of Malatya Belediyespor established (dt .: Sports Club Malatya Municipality). In 1998 and 1999 he managed to march through from the amateur camp to the TFF 1. Lig , then as Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi, the second highest division, but could not hold the class there. The lower house then consisted of five groups. In group 5, Malatya Belediyespor met Malatyaspor among others . After the relegation in the third-rate TFF 2. Lig had been missed in the 2000/01 season , Malatya Belediyespor returned to the regional amateur leagues, while the city rivals realized the return to the Süper Lig.

Modern times

Malatyaspor rose in the summer of 2009, at the same time as Malatya Belediyespor's promotion to the TFF 2nd Lig , in the TFF 3rd Lig . In order to better represent the city, one tried again to take over Malatyaspor. The Malatyaspors praesidium rejected this proposal, and so Malatya Belediyespor changed its name to Yeni Malatyaspor instead of a takeover.

While at Malatyaspor the free fall continued into the 6th division, Yeni Malatyaspor returned in 2010 to the third division. On promotion to the lower house of the Süper Lig, the club failed several times only in the play-offs.

In the summer of 2012, another unsuccessful takeover of Malatyaspor was started. After this takeover failed, the club name was independently changed to Malatyaspor Futbol Kulübü ( Malatyaspor FK for short ), the current club logo was replaced by one that was very similar to the Malatyaspors logo, the club colors were changed to those of Malatyaspor and so tried to create one Force takeover. These changes were rejected by the Turkish Football Association and Yeni Malatyaspor was issued a warning. Despite this clear warning, the club's board decided to use red-yellow, the club colors of Malatyaspor, as their own club colors and thus continue to work on taking over Malatyaspor.

In the TFF 2. Lig 2014/15 season , the club and Pendikspor fought head-to-head for the championship and thus for direct promotion for a large part of the season. After the club under the leadership of head coach Mustafa Uğur threatened to lose contact with Pendikspor in the second half of the season , Uğur was replaced by Feyyaz Uçar in early January 2015 . Under this coach, Yeni Malatyaspor set himself apart from his closest rival and on matchday 31 secured the championship of the TFF 2nd Lig and thus promotion to the TFF 1st Lig.

Special successes

On January 13, 2011 Yeni Malatyaspor caused a big surprise in the Turkish Cup of the 2009/10 season in the group stage and defeated Fenerbahçe Istanbul in front of their home crowd with 2-1 (1-1), which meant the final cup-out of Fenerbahçe.
