- January 27 : Heinrich Harries publishes the original version of the song Heil dir im Siegerkranz in the Flensburger Wochenblatt für Jedermann on the occasion of King Christian VII 's birthday Folk song God save George the King ”.
- July 6th : A city theater is founded in Leoben in Styria , which has been used continuously since then. It is now one of Austria's oldest such institutions.

The music for this work by Schikaneder is said to come from Johann Baptist Henneberg , and it contains insert numbers by Franz Xaver Gerl , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Benedikt Schack and Schikaneder himself.
