The city of Raabs had offered itself for the topic of the border because the Czech name for Austria is derived from it (see section "Place name").

Place name

Several sound shifts resulted in the castle name Rakoc from a personal name (ev. Ratgoz). In the Middle Ages, the Czechs referred to the county of Raabs, which stretched around 50 km from Raabs to Litschau, as Rakousko (which means "Raabser Land"). This name was later extended to the land behind Raabs . Today the Czechs refer to all of Austria as rakousko .
