The Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi 1998/99 was the 28th season of the third highest Turkish division in professional men's football. It began on August 29, 1998 with the 1st day of play and ended on May 9, 1999 with the 34th and final day of the game.

Competition mode

In the 1998/99 season, the TFF 1st Lig was played as an eight-track league, as in the previous season. In addition, the total number of teams was increased from 135 to 137. These 137 teams played in eight groups with 17 and 18 teams each for promotion to the 2nd league or against relegation to the regional amateur leagues. The division of the league was carried out regionally, so that mostly all teams in a group came from neighboring or close to one another provinces . All first-placed teams went straight to the second league , while the last two teams in all groups were relegated. In addition, two of the runner-up climbed up.

Beginning of the season were the remaining from the previous season 111 Teams ten relegated from the 2. Lig Kemerspor , Gaziosmanpaşaspor , Yeni Turgutluspor , Afyonspor , Düzcespor , Beylerbeyi SK , Keciörengücü , Çorumspor , Türk Telekomspor , Siirt Köy Hizmetleri YSE , the 16 newcomers Erganispor , Doğubayazıtspor , Fatsaspor , Ardeşenspor , Malatya Belediyespor , Niğdespor , Mudurnuspor , Bartinspor , Side Genpaspor , Yeni Anamurspor , Eskişehir Demirspor , Yeşilova SK , Öz Sahrayıceditspor , Kestelspor , Vefa Istanbul , Ayazağaspor added. The newcomers had been accepted as champions from the then fourth-class regional amateur leagues and were allowed to take part in the third division.

Siirt Köy Hizmetleri SK ( Group 1 ), Sivasspor ( Group 2 ), Malatya Belediyespor ( Group 3 ), MKE Kırıkkalespor ( Group 4 ), Ankara ASAŞ ( Group 5 ), Yeni Nazillispor ( Group 6 ), Darıca Gençlerbirliği ( Group 7 ), Gaziosmanpaşaspor ( Group 8 ) achieved the championship of the 3rd Lig in their groups and thus direct promotion to the 2nd Lig . In addition, the two runners-up Düzcespor and KSÜ Endüstrispor rose to the 2nd Lig.

End of the season were from the Group 1 Bitlis Köy Hizmetleri Spor , Erganispor , from the Group 2 Turhalspor , Ardeşenspor , from the Group 3 Siverek Belediyespor , Pütürge Belediyespor , from the Group 4 Beypazarı Belediyespor , Bartinspor , from the group 5 eskişehir demirspor , Afyon Şekerspor , from group 6 Yeşilova SK , Gaziemirspor , from group 7 Kestelspor , Anadoluhisarı İdman Yurdu and from group 8 Bigaspor , Küçükçekmecespor as relegated to the regional amateur league. In addition to these regular relegated teams, they did not take part in the 3rd Lig in the coming season, despite relegation from Group 7 Gölcükspor and Yalovaspor and from Group 8 Ayazağaspor .

At the start of the season, several clubs changed their names. Diyarbakır DSİ SK was renamed Bismil Birlikspor , Genç Muratspor in Bingöl Genç Telekomspor , Selçuk Üniversitesi SK in KSÜ Endüstrispor , Aksarayspor in EGSAŞ Aksarayspor and Bergamaspor in Bergama Belediyespor .
