The University of Victor Segalen Bordeaux II ( French Université Victor Segalen de Bordeaux II ) is one of four universities in the city of Bordeaux in the Gironde department in France . It was founded in 1971 and its campus is located in both Bordeaux and Talence . In 2008 about 15,000 students are enrolled. The university's offerings cover the fields of medicine , humanities , sports and oenology . It is named after the French writer , marine doctor, ethnologist and archaeologist Victor Segalen .
Locations
The university is spread over three locations:
- Campus la Victoire: In Bordeaux city center, on Place de la Victoire, in the buildings of the old Pharmaceutical Faculty, where the human sciences training takes place.
- Campus Carreire: Located on the premises of the CHU de Bordeaux, for medical training.
- Campus Talence-Pessac: Located on the campus of the three other universities. Training in oenology and sports science takes place there.
Course offer
The university comprises one school, three institutes and ten subject areas:
- A university for molecular biological methods (ESTBB)
- An Institute for Cognitive Science (IDC)
- A Public Health, Epidemiology and Development Institute (ISPED)
- Institute for a hydrotherapy , relocated to Dax
- Three disciplines of medicine,
- A specialty in orthodontics
- A field of oenology
- A major in pharmaceutical sciences
- A humanities subject,
- A discipline of science and modeling (S&M)
- A major in life sciences
- A major in sports science and physical education
research
The university has 32 laboratories associated with French national research organizations, e.g. B. with the Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (INSERM), the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), the Institut National de la Recherche en Agronomie (INRA), and the Institut de recherche pour le développement ( IRD). These 32 institutions are recognized by the Ministry of National Education, Research and Technology ( Ministère de l'Éducation Nationale, de la Recherche et de la Technologie ).
Furthermore, new researchers are trained in two doctoral seminars:

- École Doctorale des Sciences Humaines et Sociales
