About this picture
View of Oberlauchringen

Lauchringen is a municipality in the district of Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg in Germany .

Lauchringen has existed as a whole municipality since 1971 in the course of the municipal reform through the merger of the two localities Oberlauchringen and Unterlauchringen. The community is a small center with a focus on Unterlauchringen

The suburb of Oberlauchringen is much older. Unterlauchringen emerged as a settlement near the medieval mill on Wutach-Lauffen (and the former textile factory Lauffenmühle ) and became the main town with its municipal administration and shopping street in the post-war period.

In Lauchringen the B 314 joins the B 34 (towards Schaffhausen) or L 163 (towards Basel) when coming from the A 81 federal motorway . Lauchringen has two stations on the Hochrheinbahn , the Wutachtalbahn branches off from Lauchringen station .

geography

Border on the Upper Rhine, Lauchringen in the middle of the map

Lauchringen is located in southern Baden near the border between Germany and Switzerland , which is formed here by the Upper Rhine and the edges of the southern Black Forest sloping towards the river .

Wutach with Unterlauchringe

The municipality marker forms the western end of the Klettgau landscape , up to the area where the Steina and Wutach rivers meet, and then where the Wutach flows into the Upper Rhine.

The Klettgau plain is a former bed of the Rhine, which today still contains a very slowly flowing watercourse at a depth of approx. 70 m - the so-called "Klettgau channel" - which supports the region's water supply.

The eastern area of the Oberlauchringen district extends as far as the vicinity of the Küssaburg , the region's landmark. Most of the district was only able to develop after the Wutach regulation from 1816 by Johann Gottfried Tulla , as frequent floods and extensive swamping prevented settlement and made it difficult to use.

Neighboring communities

The community borders in the north on Wutöschingen , in the east on the community Klettgau , in the south on Küssaberg and in the west on the large district town of Waldshut-Tiengen .

environment

While the Klettgau plain narrows to the west through the foothills of the Hotzenwald into the High Rhine Valley, the route from Lauchringen leads northeast along the Wutach via Stühlingen and Blumberg into the Schwarzwald-Baar district and east through the German-Swiss Klettgau via Neunkirch and Hallau to Schaffhausen .

In a southerly direction to the municipality of Küssaberg, the border crossing to Bad Zurzach ('Roman town Tenedo') in the canton of Aargau is reached by road and from Zurzach also by rail to Zurich .

History (overview)

The history of Lauchringen ( Alemannic : Lauchringe ) begins with the amalgamation of Oberlauchringen and Unterlauchringen in 1971; up to the 19th century both localities developed independently of each other.

Although the name ending “ingen” in Oberlauchringen speaks for an Alemannic foundation, there are no archaeological findings. The name 'Unterlauchringen' was later adapted. "Villa Louchringen" - which means "always Oberlauchringen" - is documented for the first time in writing in a document from the Rheinau monastery from the year 860 .

Oberlauchringen is much older; traces of early history can be noted here, while Unterlauchringen as a settlement on a "stony hill" in a loop of the Wutach is only documented from the 17th century and only a "small village" is mentioned there in 1806.

The "Mühle am Lauffen" was named indirectly as early as 1418 (since the Oberlauchringer Bannmühle was called the 'upper mill' on the Wutach) and is probably the oldest. Unterlauchringen, which is socially and economically dominant today, was originally a residential and workshop area belonging to the mill and was shaped by the Lauffenmühle company until the post-war period.

The historically separate development of the two localities is also due to affiliations - Unterlauchringen was sovereignly part of the Landgraviate of Stühlingen , while Oberlauchringen was part of the Landgraviate of Klettgau . The places were also separated by the Wutach, which used to be not just a river that tore away the (bridge) structures with raging floods, but also largely swamped the area.

The traditional Adler inn in Oberlauchringen

The Wutach crossing as well as a large stream coming from the Klettgau - earlier through fords, later also bridges - was often problematic for traffic and often led to delays due to floods. A rest station or hostel was probably built here in the early days. From the 14th century onwards, a tavern , later a (court) meeting place, a collection point for bridge tolls and today's Gasthaus Adler as a (post) station was handed down as a medieval “traffic junction” - it was the focal point in the lower Wutach valley . The stately Bannmühle was located nearby : mills were medieval economic centers (besides fruit, plaster of paris and wood saws), to which the residents of Grießen and Geißlingen were compulsorily obliged for centuries ("Mühlenzwang").

Both Lauchringer localities were in the area of the ancient 'main street' along the High Rhine between Basel and Schaffhausen or to Stühlingen in the Baar as well as on the south-north connection from the Alps via Zurzach in the Klettgau (Römerstraße) and shared the often ambiguous Fate as stations of armies passing through.

After the Napoleonic 'reorganization' of Europe with the formation of the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1806 and the Wutach regulation in 1816, the rapprochement between the two villages received new settlement areas.

Both villages politically sympathized with the Baden 1848/49 revolution and the location of the train station , which opened in 1863, was already chosen within the radius of both communities.

Under the National Socialists Unterlauchringen successfully fought against incorporation into Tiengen, and in the post-war period a collaboration began that led to the unanimous community association in 1971, while the communities in the surrounding area mostly had to 'get together' until 1975.

Factory premises Lauffenmühle with disused chimney

In Unterlauchringen, the economic, 'industrial' "development from the middle of the 19th century, initially slowly advancing, is clearly recognizable; in the Oberlauchringen district, the predominantly agricultural structure was preserved until the Second World War."

Unterlauchringen's infrastructure developed rather continuously due to the influence of the Lauffenmühle - also through the influx of foreign workers - while Oberlauchringen became a community.

local community

Lauchringen is considered to be a strongly developing community, but the current developments have strongly intervened in the planning - "Mayor Thomas Schäuble speaks of great challenges in many areas of life".

Experience in the corona crisis

"For Lauchringen that means 1.2 million in income tax and allocations are dropped, according to Schäuble's assessment, and the community should expect 450,000 euros less trade tax." Lauchringen can compensate for the fee losses at kindergartens from the state's subsidy package of 100 million euros. The construction measures, which are "linked to grants, will be completed, others run on sight". [...] Voluntary tasks of the community can no longer be fulfilled. 'It's complicated to convey that.' "

Purchase of the Lauffenmühle site

Production hall (weaving mill) of the Lauffenmühle

On May 20, 2020, the notarial signatures in Stuttgart for the purchase of the Lauffenmühle site were given by the municipality. “The purchase price is 7.5 million euros, which is financed through a loan. The interest rate is 0.2 percent for a term of seven years. "

On July 31, 2019, Lauffenmühle closed after the 185-year history of the textile company, which had to initiate "production" after the last insolvency and a fruitless search for an investor. On May 4th, numerous visitors attended an open house. Since there were allegations about the closure of the company, the Waldshut-Tiengen public prosecutor's office had announced an examination of the circumstances. Since then, the municipality has had its eye on the takeover and development of the area: A favorable report on possible contaminated sites was decisive for the purchase intentions.

Communal activity

  • Expansion of the Wiggenberg industrial park near Oberlauchringen. The area of the area created in 2017 extends east to the end point of the A 98 where it joins the B 314 . This merger will flow into the B 34 in the north-south direction of the Oberlauchringen bypass . May 2020: “Hills, a river [Wutach] and two railway lines have to be overcome on the 2.7 kilometer long intermediate section. Four bridges alone are necessary on the route. This major project has been under construction since 2017, and the road should be ready by the end of 2021. […] ,Everything is going as planned.'"
  • “A leisure center with an indoor play area and a large cinema complex” is to be built in the commercial area. The cinema entrepreneur Matthias Schweikart, who directly operates the Union cinema in Lörrach under the umbrella of the Cineplex group, Germany's largest cinema operator, is acting as an investor. "The financing is still pending."
Residential complex with 'townhouses' in Riedpark
  • New construction area of the residential park am Ried in Unterlauchringen: After an open day in spring "for the completion of the first construction phase" of the Werne Group's residential project, the completed solitary building "Alea" (Latin: "cube" for its shape ) presented on.
  • Multi-generation residential complex in Riedpark: A Lauchring resident “donated 1.2 million euros from her private assets” to the complex, which cost almost 10 million euros. The topping-out ceremony was held in mid-September 2018. Here the community is offering 15 apartments at socially acceptable rental prices. In the “outpatient care community for adults with need for support and care”, the Family Center Lauchringen (FAZ) and the Diakonisches Werk have trained 18 voluntary “everyday companions” to relieve caregiving relatives and specialists in care.

The second branch of the St. Vinzenz kindergarten with 75 places was opened in Riedpark on July 11, 2019. Here, senior citizens living in the neighboring building should come together in a meeting place, since after many experiences both sides can gain a lot: "The children were able to develop further in terms of language, information intake and social behavior."

New medical center in Unterlauchringen

Regarding the discussion about the block construction projects, Mayor Schäuble says: “Free terrain is less and less available. From this point of view, however, it is also not good to want to create a high level of densification with apartment blocks everywhere. "

  • Medical care in the community is considered exemplary with two medical centers. In the Ärztehaus II , built in 2017, there is also a day clinic for child and adolescent psychiatry, a Courage counseling center from the Waldshut women's and children's shelter and an organic market on the ground floor.

A number of community activities are based on the division of labor with initiatives from the citizenry.

Civic community

  • The 'Wohngemeinschaft am Riedpark' is a showcase project (visit on the nationwide day of urban development funding on May 19, 2019) for a cooperation between the community and citizens. The Diakonisches Werk takes care of the care, the Family Center Lauchringen (FAZ) runs the business. 18 participants in a FAZ training course received their certificates as everyday companions in mid-May 2019. They “are a valuable addition in the low-threshold area and thus relieve the skilled workers” in the care of the elderly - especially in the “outpatient assisted living community for adults with a need for support and care” in Riedpark.
  • The Climate Council also emerged from an initiative of the citizens in 2016 , which critically accompanies decisions of the municipality on climate protection with several working groups. "During his first official public campaign in October 2018, around 50 committed Lauchringers, including many children and young people, planted more than 3000 native plants in ten 30-square-meter beds along the Wutach Dam in Oberlauchringen."

At the municipal council meeting on July 24, 2019, the hiring of a climate protection manager within the municipal administration was initiated.

  • In the state competition Natur nah dran 2019, Lauchringen is one of the 13 of 72 participating locations that receive a financial grant “to promote biological diversity in the settlement area”. The climate council had selected five lawns to be upgraded. To this end, “four members of the community” are trained by Nabu (Nature Conservation Association Baden-Württemberg). "In the future, [more] areas can be realized as compensation measures for development projects."

Unterlauchringen transport hub

traffic

Road
Lauchringen is currently still heavily used as a traffic junction, since the junction of the A 98 to the east on the L 163 (Unterlauchringen) and federal road 34 (Oberlauchringen) after the Bürgerwaldtunnel leads through both suburbs and from the B 314 from the Wutach Valley - vice versa The influx of car traffic in the area and the Rhine crossing at Bad Zurzach must also choose the through-town. The (eastern) bypass Oberlauchringen should make
things easier for both localities from 2021 , as this would divert regional traffic on the B 34 directly to the northern bypass (last section of the A 98).

A “risky” section of the B 34 for cyclists with a gap in the cycle path within Oberlauchringen is to be closed by a renovation by mid-2020.

  • There is a fast charging station for electric vehicles at the carport at the town hall , as well as two in Jahnstraße and one in the new multi-storey car park.

train

  • Hochrheinbahn

Lauchringen has two train stations - the former Oberlauchringen train station , today the Lauchringen train station and the Lauchringen-West station .

In 2018, DB Netz AG informed about a planned new construction of the railway bridge over the Wutach: " According to Deutsche Bahn there is no alternative to the demolition of the Oberlauchringer steel truss bridge ." The bridge, which has been a listed building since 2006, "was built in 1862 and received its current steel superstructure in 1909 [...]" The problem is material fatigue '”, said the DB expert at an information event on November 14, 2018 with 80 listeners in town and“ an exchange of affected elements is not technically possible. ”A type of conversion -“ a welded replacement would be much more bulky and lose the monument protection . [...] The safe remaining period of use is limited to 2024. ”The new building would be a“ tied arch bridge ”. "It is unclear whether the construction can be combined with the electrification of the Upper Rhine route [...]."

  • Wutach Valley Railway

Since 1876 the Wutachtalbahn has branched off from Lauchringen station , which initially only ran as far as Weizen near Stühlingen and, after the strategic railway construction in 1890 (today the museum route as a section of the Wutachtalbahn ), provided a connection to the Schwarzwald-Baar district . It is partially passable again today after the Blumberg railway company set up school traffic - currently (May 2019) to Eggingen . A continuation from Waldshut to Stühlingen should take place this year. With the special feeder to the museum railway from Waldshut, the route to Blumberg has been set up for a long time.

Church of St. Andreas in Oberlauchringen

Religious communities

The Catholic parishes Herz-Jesu and St. Andreas exist in Unter- and Oberlauchringen, and the Protestant Matthäus parish for both localities.

Catholic community

Oberlauchringen originally belonged to the parish of Tiengen, the branch "Lochringen" is mentioned there in 1360/70. In 1622 the parish of St. Andreas became independent. There is an uninterrupted “list of pastors”. The intrepid Pastor Dietrich (1937–1952) was arrested during the war in 1944 "and, despite hours of interrogation, insisted on his principle that he would rather have his head cut off than extradite someone to the Gestapo ."

There is a first reference to a church in a document from 1357, it was considered “old and dilapidated” around 1700, but was only demolished in 1835: “The current parish church was built in 1835/36 in a simple classical style […] 1980/81 the exterior renovation took place, in 1986 the complete restoration of the interior in favor of the previously existing decorative painting. "

Catholic Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Unterlauchringen

As a small village, Unterlauchringen remained a branch of the parish of Tiengen until 1918. The request for an own chapel was not adequately subsidized by the prince in 1792, only a cross "in the middle of the village" was possible. It was not until 1890 that the place had developed so far that a large chapel could be built. In 1924 the foundation stone was laid and in 1926 the Sacred Heart Church, built in the modern classicist style with a generous donation from Lauffenmühle (8,000 gold marks ), was inaugurated. The parish only became independent in 1948, and a fundamental church renovation took place in 1988.

Until December 31, 2007, Lauchringen was the seat of the Wutachtal deanery of the Archdiocese of Freiburg . Since the reform of the deanery, the new Waldshut deanery has worked.

Women's
strike On May 13, 2019, three volunteers from the Oberlauchringen “community team” went on strike for equality for women in the Catholic Church: “Women take on 70 percent of the church work and are not part of it.” Discussion evening and held a separate word service in front of the church on Sunday, May 19, with 60 supporters, women and men, while the regular service took place in the church at the same time. The parish council Mittlerer Hochrhein St. Verena and the member of the Bundestag Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter (SPD) from Lauchringen also showed solidarity with the women .

“Pastor Ulrich Sickinger had previously signaled understanding and support for the women's desire for equal rights. Although he stayed away from the action in front of the Lauchringer Church, he had not forbidden it. "

In general, the Maria 2.0 campaign is about “ equality between men and women in the Catholic Church. [...] The three initiators of the Lauchring church strike [...] have collected around 5,000 signatures since their initiative began in May. [...] On Monday [23. September 2019] the three women traveled to Fulda in Hesse , where the German Bishops 'Conference is meeting. "They handed over" a folder with the signatures to Cardinal Reinhard Marx , the chairman of the Bishops' Conference. "

Evangelical community

The Protestant St. Matthew Church in Unterlauchringen

While there were hardly any Protestant Christians in the region in the 19th century - there was a strong Protestant community in Kadelburg only because of the close connection to the Reformation Zurzach. With their support, a church was first built in Tiengen in 1906, and the Lauchring evangelicals were also oriented there. With the influx after the Second World War (expellees), the Protestant part of the population grew rapidly, also because the Lauffenmühle offered jobs. In 1959 the Matthäus Church was built, and in 1980 the Protestant parish broke away from the parish of Tiengen.

Other communities
The Millî Görüş Lauchringen association has built a mosque in the Wiggenberg industrial park.

Social facilities

  • The Peru working group of the St. Verena pastoral care unit implemented projects (new church, bakery, training center) in the partner community of San Martin de Porres in Pamplona Alta / Lima. "In the meantime, eight young people from the Waldshut district up to a year have been placed as volunteers in the partner community [...]." The other way round, three people from Peru.
  • The Hochrhein Family Center (FAZ) in Unterlauchringen is an open day meeting for “people in difficult situations and with disabilities [...], a non-official social center and (a) contact point for all fellow citizens.” It offers “a rich care and leisure program for children "(In" Adventure Land "). In 2019, the FAZ is also responsible for running the shared apartment at Riedpark .

Culture and sights

Wutach- Lauffen (remaining water)
  • Hiking area of the Lauchringer Wald towards the Upper Rhine and the Black Forest.
  • The Wutach , which rises on the Feldberg, forms one of the most powerful natural waterfalls in Germany in Unterlauchringen . Often the Wutach lies there, however, due to the water drainage into the Lauffenmühle Canal, sometimes almost dry.

The 700 year old inn

Buildings

The Adler Gasthaus is one of the oldest inns in the region in the Oberlauchringen district. The earliest documentary evidence is drafted in 1303-08 Urbar included. The inn was of great importance, as the Free Imperial District Court of Klettgau met here at times . It was later used as a post office by the Upper Austrian Post Office .

Also in Oberlauchringen is the 700 year old “ Bannmühle ” on the Mühlekanal, which nobody is forced to use today, but which is still in operation.

Lauchringen has an intensive club culture and is considered a "stronghold" of the southwest German carnival in the Waldshut district .

Carnival tradition

  • As early as 2016, the traditional association of Dä had already tried to create the world's largest Smurfs meeting with 2149 Smurfs in 2004 , but it wasn't until 2019, on Saturday, February 16, that the attempt succeeded in entering the Guinness Book as a "world record" with 2762 participants dressed as 'original' of the Records (Guinness World Records). The previous record was 2510 Smurfs in Swansea / Wales in 2009 . The confirmation from the Guinness Institute reached the organizers of the record attempt on May 25, 2019, who “handed over a donation check for the amount of 12,000 euros as proceeds from the major event on February 16” to the community.
  • Immediately afterwards, on Saturday and Sunday, February 17, 2019, the 39th Kleggaunarrentreffen took place with the 60-year-old Schwanenmühle fool's association as hosts and "thousands of henchmen and hosts of spectators".
  • The Lauchringer Guggenmusik are the Ruinä-Dängler with a clubhouse and rehearsal room in the Lauchringen train station .
