The Bosnian won another game before knocking out Marc Bijsterbosch 3-9. Furthermore, the former professional snooker Tony Drago suffered a first round defeat.

In the second round, two former 9-ball world champions suffered their first defeat: Oliver Ortmann just lost to Americo Ferreira (8: 9) and Daryl Peach to Christian Sparrenlöv (4: 9). In addition, Evangelos Vettas defeated last year 's European champion Ruslan Tschinachow and Maxim Dudanez the two-time U19 European champion Wiktor Zieliński .

One of the first players to be eliminated was the 2014 vice European champion, Ivo Aarts . In the second losing round the tournament ended for Tschinachow with a 5-9 defeat against the U23 European champion Casper Matikainen . The Russian, who won the Dutch Open last year, was the first top 16 player to be eliminated. The two-time European champion Francisco Díaz-Pizarro was defeated in this section by the Portuguese Bruno Sousa (5: 9) after he had come to the losers' round due to a defeat in a hard-fought second round match against Mieszko Fortuński (7: 9). In the third round on the losing side, the two-time Euro Tour winner Fabio Petroni was eliminated against Tim de Ruyter (4: 9) and Daryl Peach was surprisingly defeated by the Greek Panagiotis Xypoliteas (4: 9).

With the Dane Christoffer Lentz , the only U17 European champion participating in the tournament was eliminated in the round that meant rank 65. The tournament also ended with this placement for the U23 European 9-ball champion, Vitaly Pazura . The Ukrainian, who won a men's European Championship title in 2016 , defeated Sergei Luzker , among others , before he was now narrowly defeated by Estonian Mark Mägi (8: 9). A surprise of this round was the elimination of six-time Euro Tour winner Mark Gray . The ranked thirteenth had clearly won his opening game against Mohammad Soufi (9: 5), but then lost to Nikos Ekonomopoulos (6: 9) and finally had to admit defeat to 19-year-old German Kevin Schiller (4: 9). Christian Sparrenlöv (8: 9 against Konstantin Stepanow ) and Tony Drago (8: 9 against Oliver Szolnoki ) were also eliminated in this round .

Round of 16

Dimitri Jungo 's first Euro Tour tournament after his two-year break ended in the round of 16 . For Iker-Andoni Echeverria , too, was in the round of 16 over. Against the Euro Tour leaderboard Mario He , the Spaniard took the lead four times and was close to reaching the quarter-finals with 8: 7. But the Austrian still managed to turn the game around.

In the third round of 16, the former 9-ball world champions Niels Feijen and Albin Ouschan met , who had contested the European Championship final in 14/1 the previous month and the 9-ball World Championship final in 2014 . With Marc Bijsterbosch and Jani Uski , two European champions from 2017 played against each other in the round of the last 16 , with Bijsterbosch winning 9: 4 against the Finn, who had never reached the finals in his four previous Euro Tour tournaments. In the duel of third place Eklent Kaçi against sixth Francisco Sánchez , the Albanian was able to clearly prevail (9: 3).

The last two Germans remaining in the tournament were also eliminated in the round of 16. While the Euro Tour record winner Ralf Souquet had to admit defeat to his club mate from BSV Dachau , David Alcaide , 6: 9, the 10-ball European champion Joshua Filler was defeated by the Finn Kim Laaksonen (4: 9).

Quarter finals

In the quarter-finals there was another clash between two former European champions, which also represented the encounter between two of the four remaining top 16 players in the Euro Tour rankings. After Konstantin Stepanow took the lead 3-0, the Austrian Mario He won the following five racks and never gave up the lead (9: 7).

Two more games of the Round of 8 went clear. Niels Feijen won 9-2 against Maxim Dudanez and Albanian Eklent Kaçi made it into the semi-finals for the fourth time in a row with a 9-2 win against Marc Bijsterbosch . In the fourth quarter-finals, the Finn Kim Laaksonen , who made it past the sixteenth-finals for the first time, was able to fight for a 7-6 lead against David Alcaide . However, the Spaniard won the following three racks and made it into a Euro Tour semi-finals for the thirteenth time.

Semifinals

In the first semi-final, Mario He clearly prevailed against Niels Feijen , the only remaining reigning European champion (9: 1). The second game of the semifinals was more even. Five times in the course of the match between Eklent Kaçi and David Alcaide it was tied and neither player ever achieved a lead of more than two racks. In the end, Kaçi prevailed 9: 7 against the tenth in the ranking.

final

In the final, the leader of the Euro Tour rankings Mario He met third Eklent Kaçi . While the Austrian had been successful twice in four finals previously ( North Cyprus Open 2016 and Austrian Open 2017 ), the Albanian Kaçi was in the final for the second time after his victory at the Treviso Open 2018 . Both finalists had reached the finals after an opening defeat on the losing side.

In the final, Mario He first took the lead six times, whereupon the Albanian managed to equalize directly. In the thirteenth rack, Kaçi gained a lead for the only time (7: 6). The Austrian then turned the game to an 8: 7 lead. After Kaçi had equalized again, Mario He was allowed to toast in the decisive rack. After the break , a difficult ball remained for the Austrian. He sank it, then cleared the table completely and decided the game 9: 8 for himself. As the thirteenth player and the first Austrian, He secured his third Euro Tour victory.
