The constituency of Giessen I (constituency 18) is one of two state electoral districts in the Hessian district of Giessen . The constituency includes the cities and communities of Biebertal , Gießen , Heuchelheim , Lollar , Staufenberg and Wettenberg . Before the state elections in 2008, the towns of Fernwald, Lollar and Staufenberg were added to the constituency. The municipality of Fernwald was removed from the constituency again by law of December 18, 2017 (GVBl. P. 478) and added to constituency Gießen II .
The constituency is the residence of Prime Minister Volker Bouffier , who always ran as a direct candidate in the constituency of Gießen II .
The constituency of Gießen I was created on January 1, 1983, before that Biebertal and Wettenberg belonged to the previous constituency 17 , the city of Gießen to the then constituency 19 and Heuchelheim to the old constituency 20 .

In addition to the constituency member Frank-Tilo Becher (SPD), who was elected directly for the first time, the direct candidates of the CDU, Klaus Peter Möller, the Greens, Katrin Schleenbecker, and the AfD, Arno Enners, were elected to parliament via the respective state lists of their parties.
