Drienov (Slovak 1973-1980 "Drienov" - to 1927 "Drinov", Hungarian Somos ) is a place and a municipality in Prešov District ( Prešovský kraj ) in the east of Slovakia , with a population of 2,242 (December 31, 2019).
geography
The community is located in the basin Košická kotlina ( Košice basin ) the river Torysa , 14 kilometers from Prešov and 21 kilometers from Košice area.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1283. Historically, Drienov was a minority town, and important landowners in the Middle Ages came from the Aba family. In 1828 there are 140 houses and 1,055 inhabitants.
Both the Slovak and the Hungarian name come from the respective names for Cornelian cherries .

About one kilometer south of the town there is a connection to the D1 motorway (Prešov – Košice). The nearest train station is in Kysak (approx. 5 km).
