The Iowa County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 , the county had 23,687 residents and a population density of 12 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Dodgeville , named after Henry Dodge , a general and early governor of the Wisconsin Territory .
Iowa County is part of the Madison metropolitan area .

The county is located in southwest Wisconsin, on the south bank of the Wisconsin River , a left tributary of the Mississippi . It is about 50 km to the south from Illinois , about 70 km to the west from Iowa , and has an area of 1989 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water. Iowa County was formed on October 9, 1829 from parts of Crawford County. It was named after the Iowa indigenous people .
