Labastide-Saint-Pierre ( Occitan : La Bastida de Sent Pèire ) is a French commune with 3742 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Montauban and is part of the canton of Tarn-Tescou-Quercy vert . The inhabitants are called bastidians .
geography
Labastide-Saint-Pierre is located on the western bank of the Tarns River , which also forms the northeastern municipal boundary. The municipality is located in the Côtes du Frontonnais wine region . Labastide-Saint-Pierre is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bressols in the north and north-west, Montauban in the north, Corbarieu in the north-east, Orgueil in the east and south, Campsas in the south-west and Montbartier in the west.
The A62 autoroute and the former national route 630 run through the municipality .
history
As a bastide , the place was founded in 1270 (according to other sources 1272) by Count Alfons of Poitiers . But the area was already settled because it was on the Roman road from Montauban to Toulouse. As early as the 9th century, Pierre d'Alba founded a small colony on the course of the Tarns river called Saint-Pierre. The place was destroyed several times in the wars of religion. During the French Revolution, the place was called Labastide-de-Tarn .
