Location of the municipality

Lena is a municipality in the autonomous region of Asturias in northern Spain . It is divided into 24 parroquias . The main town of the municipality is Pola de Lena .

Bounded to the north by Mieres , to the south by the province of León , to the west by Riosa and Quirós and to the east by Aller .

Rivers

Several important rivers that were used for rafting in the past run right through the region and the Parroquias . The most important are Huerna , Pajeres , Caudal and der Aller .

history

The first mentions come from the reigns of Ramiro I and Ordoño I , i.e. from the 9th century. The construction of the pilgrimage church of Santa Cristina de Lena also dates back to this time .

In 1266, Alfonso X el Sabio first confirmed the municipality in a document, the Carta Puebla .

Attractions

The pre-Romanesque church of Santa Cristina de Lena

• El mosaico de Vega de Ciego was found during the excavations of a Roman villa in 1921 and is now in the Museo Arqueológico de Asturias .
• Church of Santa Cristina de Lena from the 9th century.

Festivals and Celebrations

On the first weekend in July, the “Fiesta del Cordero a la Estaca” (a kind of local festival with traditional dances, food and music) is celebrated together with the Quirós community .
