A total of 56 seats

This list of the members of the Lower Austrian Parliament (XVII. Legislative period) (as of July 1, 2010) lists all former and active members of the Lower Austrian Parliament in the XVII. Legislative period (from 2008 to 2013). The constituent meeting of the Lower Austrian Parliament took place on April 10, 2008. At this meeting, after the members of the state parliament had sworn in, the members of the Lower Austrian state government Pröll V were elected. The members of the government subsequently renounced their mandates in the state parliament and were only members of the Lower Austrian state parliament for a short time during the session.

Since the state elections on March 9, 2008, 31 of the 56 mandates have been assigned to the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), which has thus been able to maintain its mandate and an absolute majority. The Social Democratic Party of Austria was able to unite 15 seats, whereby it lost four seats compared to the state elections in 2003 . The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) was able to increase its mandate from two to six mandates, while The Greens - The Green Alternative (GRÜNE) remained unchanged with four mandates.

Functions

Landtag President

After the resignation of the previous state parliament president Edmund Freibauer after the state elections in 2008, the previous third state parliament president Johann Penz (ÖVP) was elected as the new state parliament president with 54 of 56 votes (with two invalid votes) in the constituent session. The office of Second President of the State Parliament was also filled in the new legislative period. Instead of the previous incumbent Ewald Sacher (ÖVP), Herbert Nowohradsky (ÖVP) took over this office at the constituent meeting after receiving 52 of 56 votes (with four invalid votes). Alfredo Rosenmaier (SPÖ) was ultimately elected to the office of third state parliament president with the same result as Nowohradsky.

Club chairmen

Within the “Landtag Club of the People's Party of Lower Austria”, Klaus Schneeberger took over the function of club chairman, although he had already exercised this function in the previous legislative period. At the beginning of the legislative period, Helmut Cerwenka took over the post of chairman of the “Club of Social Democratic Landtag Members of Lower Austria” from Hannes Weninger , after he had moved to the National Council. After Cerwenka left the state parliament on April 22, 2010, Günther Leichtfried took over his office. After the election, the MPs of the FPÖ formed the “Freedom Club in the Lower Austrian Landtag”, with Gottfried Waldhäusl as club chairman and Erich Königsberger as his deputy. As before, Madeleine Petrovic heads the “Green Club in the Lower Austrian State Parliament”, and Helga Krismer-Huber is her deputy .
